    I have heard that flax seeds i.e. Alsi is good for health. What are the health benefits and drawbacks (if any) of Flax seeds?

  • The health benifits of Flax- seeds are given below-
    1) It contains a number of essential minerals such as Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, healthy fibre and Omega 3 fatty acid and all these constituents are benificial for heart, kidney and liver.
    2) A regular use of powdered Flax - seed along with breakfast in a minute quantity would regulate healthy cholesterol level.
    3) It can be taken to control sugar level since Flax- seed contains diatery fibre which slows down the absorption of sugar in the blood.
    4) Flax - seed takes care of excess weight of the body by reducing triglyceride.
    5) Due to presence of fibre, it eliminates Constipation.
    6) Flax- seed has the protective effect against Breast - cancer, Colon - cancer and Prostate - cancer. Omega 3 fatty - acid found in Flax- seed inhibit the growth of Tumor.
    7) Two components ALA and legnans present in the Flax - seed reduce the inflammation and so it is useful in the diseases like Asthama and Parkisons - disease.

    1) Excess consumption of the same may cause diarrhoea.
    2) Gas - bloating in the stomach may occur.
    3) Feeling of heaviness may be felt.
