  • Dear, First think about the duration of the course, expenses to meet the course, your interest and ability to pursue the course. Then decide and choose MBA/ PGDM.

MBA(Master of Business Administration) is a post graduate degree course offered by universities. MBA course focuses on theoretical aspects of management and is exam oriented.

PGDM( post graduate diploma in management ) is offered by AICTE approved institutes. PGDM builds on soft skills, prepares students for jobs and is industry oriented.

Reputation of the institute becomes more important for job placements. The course fees also varies depending on the institute. Look for the parameters of the institute, find out the accreditation of the institute, infrastructure of the institute, duration of the course, scholarships, campus selection process, tuition fee structure, location of the institute and the specialization the course offers for both the programs.

The courses are available as full time, part time, executive MBA/correspondence/ on-line etc. Find the right course and choose the degree program that is comfortable for you to pursue.

The common entrance tests conducted for MBA couses are CAT/ZAT/MAT/CMAT exams. The entrance tests includes tests on verbal, data interpretation, logical and analytical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, English language skills, decision making, general knowledge, essay writing, numerical ability etc. Focus on these areas for preparing for the tests. For more information find the details on ISC pages.

    Wishing you the best.

  • Its good you have thought about both the MBA or PGDM. MBA is Master of Business in
administration and the PGDM Post Graduate Diploma in Management. The duration of
most of the MBA are 2 years of study either as Full time or Part time, Distance mode.
The duration of PGDM is either one year or one and half a year in some of the universities.
In considering the PGDM is a prior stage of MBA in some of the Colleges.

There are foreign universities that offer MBA in 18 months. The PGDM is offered in a year in the same foreign universities where you have secure good scores in TOEFL( Test of English as Foreign Languages) and GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test). TOEFL is for the English language ability and GMAT is for the subject tests. With these two you can either secure admission in U.S.A, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and some more countries where they keep this as priority as an entrance and eligibility test.

In India IIM( Indian Institute of Management) is been considered to be the best for the MBA'S and PGDM where entrances are also required like CAT, GATE exams, even the TOEFL and GMAT are also considered in few top most Graduate schools for the admissions.
Even though you are opting for the entrance coaching classes, efforts and working should be yours in order to achieve in the exams. Starting with English and going with the math and subjects is important for the entrance exams.

  • MBA or PGDM -
PGDM is slightly better as most colleges offering it supposed to be autonomous which means independent body to conduct examination and placements. MBA degree is offered under university program. Both are 2 years.

Preparation for these entrance exams -
    1. Start with state level university examination preparation.
    2. Join local coaching institutes which prepare for CAT exam. Make sure to take their test series.
    3. More you study more you become comfortable. You have to be strong in all sections of verbal and non verbal questions.

Which college or university is good for management -
All IIM, All IIT offered management programs, Autonomous universities like XLRI , Symbiosis and some university colleges like JBIMS etc.
Which coaching for preparation of Management entrance exam is good in Patna -
    1. XLRI is closed to Patna so XAT exam would be better choice for you.
    2. IIM Ranchi, Culcutta are other options for PGDM.

  • I understand your concern ,it is very common dilemma among MBA aspirants.I would first of say that place does not determine the preparation level or quality. You can prepare very well even at Patna provided you maintain a proper dedication level, you work hardwork and practice on daily basis.
First of all you should understand why you want to do MBA, 2nd you should focus on the exams which you want to appear and prepare properly with good dedication level and score good.
Then comes the selection process-It is very hard fact that not everyone can get oppurtunity to join IIM but there are many institutes in India which are not highly recognised by name but provides good learning oppurtunites and even decent placement. I have written one article on how to select MBA college ,you may go through it .
