    Placement guidance outside the University

Searching for placement guidance? Wondering whether a student can apply to Indian Army from outside the college? Here, on this Ask Expert page check out advice provided by experts.

I am in 2nd year of BSc Computer Science. At the 3rd year we are considered for placement but I want placement in the Indian Army. But the problem is that my college is not considered for such army placements. The Indian Army has never visited us. Can I call an outside company for placement for myself?

  • Indian Army does not visit any college for direct recruitment as the positions for the army are more training and aptitude oriented. Candidates are recruited through written examinations which will be conducted for many levels from easy to difficult. Once candidates qualify in the written exam, they will be put into rigorous training depending on the positions. Only those candidates who successfully complete the training will be put into official positions.
So, look for Government job related websites. You can also check ISC Articles Admission section to find the latest recruitment notifications. I would also suggest you to read Employment News paper which releases weekly. It will have all Government job vacancies notification.

  • Indian Army will recruit people by their advertisements in leading news papers and Employment News. But they will never do campus recruitments. As far as my knowledge goes no Government Institution will conduct campus placements.
Once you see the advertisement you can apply as per the guidelines given in the notification. They may call you for a written test and then interview and finally medical fitness. Once you clear all the three in the sequence you will get placement in army.
These advertisements may also be checked on line.

    always confident

  • yes a student can apply to Indian Army from outside the college. Indian Army will advertise in leading newspapers and Employment newspaper for their recruitment. If you want to join Indian Army keep touch with the advertisements of such recruitment in the Indian Army.Read carefully all the guidelines, qualification and process of recruitment mentioned in the advertisement. You can also apply for Defense Forces after bachelor's degree by giving UPSC examination(Combined Defense Service Examination). The written examination for UPSC is scheduled twice in a year.If you have done degree B.E or B.Tech you can join Indian Army by option Technical Graduate Course and Short Service Commission. Technical Graduate Course exam scheduled twice in a year and Short Service Commission scheduled once in a year.

As per as your other question you can also call an outside company for placement for college in the college by getting permissions. But you can't call any outside company in college campus for getting placement of yourself only in college. You can apply any company outside your college campus

  • Indian Army used to come in colleges some 5 years back.It came in my college also. What I can suggest you is that please get in touch with the training and placement officer of the nearby institution where you know that Indian army comes for recruitments.
    • You can request the Training and Placement department and they would certainly help you.
    • The other way is you can apply for CDS exam for which the eligibility is Graduation. If you are able to qualify this exam it is best.
    • Apart from this the Army comes up with short service commission form which are available from time to time in leading newspaper. Please be in touch with them.

  • If one is interested for armed forces then he has to apply against the advertisement for Combined Defence Services through which candidates are selected for air force, navy and armed forces.

There is university entry scheme but it is for engineering graduates for the technical cadre in army.

For those who have done NCC 'C' certificate during their student career there is a scheme of OTA training and that is another way to get in armed forces.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

  • It must be clearly understood that Indian Army (or Indian Air Force or Indian Navy) does not recruit candidates through campus interviews. Generally Officers' cadre vacancies are filled through UPSC. The NDA examinations are held twice every year and IMA/OTA examinations are held once in every year. Advertisements are given in the Employment News and other newspapers (all over India) with maximum circulation. In addition to all these, the Officers' cadre posts in various other technical services (like Signal Corps, Medical Corps, Veterinary Corps, etc. ) are also filled through UPSC. The detailed and accurate information in this regard is available in the following link:-

I would strongly advise you not to fall in the trap of any agency or middleman for appointment in Indian Army.

Beware! I question everything and everybody.
