    Which are the posts filled through IES examination?

    Currently, I am pursuing my Master's degree in Civil Engineering. I have applied for IES examination 2018 and I want to know the post vacant for the Civil department which is going to be filled through the IES civil service examination.

  • The number of vacancies are approximately 588 including 18 PH(LDCP-15 & HI-03) vacancies.

    CIVIL ENGINEERING posts will be available in the following areas.
    (i) Indian Railway Service of Engineers.
    (ii) Indian Railway Stores Service
    (iii) Indian Ordnance Factories Service.
    (iv) Central Engineering Service (Roads),
    (v) Central Water Engineering Service.
    (vi)Border Roads Engineering Service
    (vii) Indian Defence Service of Engineers.
    (viii) Indian Skill Development Service.

  • Indian Engineering Services/ Engineering services Examination held by UPSC has four main branches ( Mechanical,Civil,Electrical, Electronics&Telecommunication). The seat numbers vary from year to year. It is expected/estimated to be around 588 (560-601).

    1.Going by the total 588 tentative vacancies, 274 are in Civil, 175 are in Mechanical, 135 are in Electrical and 114 are in Electronics & Telecommunication branches.

    2.This number is expected to go up. The Special Class Railway Apprentice Exam (SCRA) has been put on hold. So, these vacancies would likely to be filled in from the ESE/IES exams.

    3.The Indian skills development services has also been included to be filled in by ESE/IES exams. So the final estimated number would go up to be around 650-700.

  • IES examination is conducted in four branches of engineering namely Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunication by UPSC every year for selection of engineers in various Govt departments.

    For IES-2018 the total vacancies are projected as 588 and the tentative number of vacancies for civil engineering discipline is 165.

    Please note that these are only the tentative figures and exact figures will be as finally declared by UPSC depending upon the requirement from the various Govt establishments.

  • As per the information available in UPSC site the total number of vacancies in IES-2018 are about 588.
    IES is combined engineering exam against the vacancies in Govt organisations for engineering disciplines of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and E&T areas.
    As per the historical data available in internet the approximate expected vacancies for civil should be in the range 100-150. However the actual vacancies will be known only after the authentic announcement by UPSC.

  • There is a age limit to apply for an IES exam. Aspirants age between 21 to 30 years. IES(Indian Engineering Services) exam paper is made from only four branches as civil, mechanical, electrical and electronics and tele-communication engineering. Following posts are filled through an IES examination in civil department:
    1. Indian railway service
    2. Central water engineering.
    3. Indian ordanance factory.
    4. Central engineering service for roads(indian navy)
    5. Border roads engineering service.

  • I think you are talking about Indian Engineering Service examination and not about Indian Economic Service examination.

    The following sub-cadres are included in Indian Engineering Service:-
    (a) Indian Railway Service of Engineers
    (b) Indian Railway Stores Service (Only for Civil Engineers)
    (c) Indian Ordnance Factories Service AWM/ JTS (Only for Civil Engineers)
    (d) Central Engineering Service (Roads), Gr 'A' (Only for Civil Engineers)
    (e) Central Water Engineering Service Gr 'A' (Only for Civil Engineers)
    (f) Assistant Executive Engineer in Border Roads Engineering Service Gr 'A' (Only for Civil Engineers)
    (g) Indian Defence Service of Engineers
    (h) Indian Skill Development Service
    The selected candidates join as Assistant Executive Engineers in the above mentioned departments/offices.

    Th examination is conducted by UPSC in three parts, viz., Preliminary (300 marks), Mains (two papers of 300 marks each) and Personality Test (200 marks).
