  • Group 2 employees are eligible for promotion as grade 1 and then further higher position. The salary hikes will be on the basis of scales of the posts and yearly you will get that increment. Again as and when there is a change in DA, that also will be applicable to these posts. The promotions will be based on the availability of posts but no timescale. Even after joining in this job you can apply for higher group or grade examinations. There will not be any objection to that as long as you are satisfying all the qualification and other requirements for the post. But you must send the application through proper channel or you should attach a no objection certificate from the concerned officer of your department.

  • TNPSC group II non interview posts are for Assistants in the many departments in the TamilNadu Ministerial Services. The payscale is Rs 5200-Rs 20,200 + Grade pay of Rs 2800.00. With the 7th pay commission hike, this figure will improve.

The promotions are not time bound but takes around 6- 10 years. Assistant revenue officer to Revenue Inspector to Thasildhar and Assistant Collector.

People struggle to get into the TNPSC Group II non interview posts and the competition is high. Once they get the appointment then they feel secure. This is because these posts basically to be assistants for various influential senior officials of the key government department. There are posts that are sought after for the authority it carries rather than the salary component.

  • I am giving a general picture about the recruitment process undertaken by a Public Service Commission of a state. Group II level recruitments fall in two categories group II A and B. The posts i.e Assistants you were talking about fall under Group II B category and belong to non-Gazetted cadre. Once you clear the recruitment process in various phases as adopted by the respective state PSCs, it may take 6-8 years to get into the next level by means of seniority or through a Departmental Examination.

There won't be any restriction to apply for other examinations conducted by various recruiting agencies like UPSC, SSC, BSRB or RRB etc., but you have apply through proper channel so that your previous service gets counted in the event of your selection to any other post which ordinarily would be of higher grade.

As regards your question in particular, the response by Mr.Natarajan gives you a clear idea.
