I'm currently studying in 12th Science. But I'm finding science quiet difficult and I want to change my field to commerce. And I'm thinking to do HR Management or Event Management in future.
How much percentage should I get in 12th? Will CET exam help me to change my field? Or which entrance exam should I give to get into commerce field?

  • There are many universities where B Com course is available. They have their own test procedure for admission. The main eligibility criterion for B Com course is class 12 with English as one subject along with Mathematics or Accountancy or Statistics or Buisness Administration.

As you are in science stream you must be having Mathematics as one of your subjects so you are eligible to apply for B Com. You can find out some reputed college or university near you and try to get admission in B Com by appearing in their entrance test.

Please remember today there is very high competition in the market and whether you do your courses in science stream or commerce you have to put lot of efforts to outstand in your endeavours in pursuit of a job.

Another thing is you may be experiencing science as a tough stream but please note that commerce is also not an easy stream as you will have to do very hard work to understand and learn the financial and economical aspects of business world and numerical solutions to business and banking problems. If you are aware of this and taking a conscious decision to change your stream from science to commerce then it is all right otherwise you can reconsider your thinking of changing your stream.

    Knowledge is power.

  • In India, all traditional universities teach Commerce at Graduation and Post-Graduation level. Moreover, a student of Science in XIIth standard can shift to Commerce at later stage. So, you can easily shift to study Commerce at Graduation level. If you have Mathematics at X+II level, you will get some benefit while studying Commerce.

So far as studying HR Management or Event Management, the students of any stream can study these specialized subject after taking admission in MBA through various entrance tests. So, it is immaterial whether you study Science, Commerce or Humanities. You have to clear CAT or any other Management entrance test to take admission in MBA (with specialisation in HR Management or in Event Management).

So far as Common Entrance Test (CET) is concerned, it is a competitive examination conducted for the purpose of admission of students to the first year or first semester of full-time courses in medical, dental and engineering streams in professional colleges in India. It would not be relevant in your case.

Come on, have a fight. Don't shoot and scoot.

  • After completing your +2, you can opt for BA or B.Com. There are many colleges in our country offering these courses with different combinations. You will have a lot of choice in BA for subjects. HR management and Event Management course specialisation may be offered by some universities. Otherwise, after completing your graduation you can opt for special certificate courses for event management and you will have good scope for good career. Your immediate task should be to complete +2. Once you complete the course try for the admission in those courses mentioned and pursue your studies in the field of your choice. Any subject will have its own goods and bads. So don't think other subjects are easy. But select a subject of your interest and work hard in that line to achieve good ranks and jobs.

    always confident

  • You can start commerce course after you have finished your 12th. Make sure you pass out with a good percentage. It is hard to pursue a course which doesn't interest you and it is a good motive to shift your course in the mainstream studies. There are many colleges and competitive exams that can get you admission in commerce course.

As per your query, CET exam (Common Entrance Test) is conducted for medical, dental and engineering students. So according to my knowledge, CET isn't an exam for you. But still, you can pursue other certified courses which will meet your interests. Some of them are:

    1. Diploma in Banking services
    2. Chartered Accountancy
    3. Certified Public Accountant
    4. Certified Management Accountant
    5. Integrated MBA which can be obtained by reputed business schools through competitive exams such as JEE.

Finally, you can join Bachelor's of Commerce (BCom) in any reputed college in your nearest area. The admission procedure varies from college to college. It can be based on your percentage in 12th or through entrance exam of their own.

    Good Luck

    Thank You

  • Shifting of stream from Science to Commerce after passing your class twelve from a recognised Board would depend upon the availability of seats in the commerce stream and the percentage of marks secured by the candidates. Hence, you need to secure high percentage in aggregate and also ensure that you achieve impressive marks in English and Mathematics.
Find out the the prospectus of the different colleges of your locality and be familiar with their trend with respect to admission. In some colleges, they conduct written test to screen out candidates and in such a case, you will have to emerge successful in such tests conducted from their ends.
Your immediate task would be to clear your class 12 with high scorings enabling you to achieve your goal.
CET examination is a separate examination which is meant for clearing Medical, Engineering, Dentist and Agriculture stream of a state and in no way, you are to get any concession out of such tests.
After your graduation in commerce, you can up take up Event - management or HR management by taking up a management course from a reputed institution.

  • Technically, for Event management you Do Not need a degree, you need a passion for long or odd hours, be an outgoing social person and a skill to groom contacts (secretaries, media personnel, local celebrities etc) and be excellent in networking with people at various levels of the industry right from wedding planners, to corporate events to music/school event or media contacts who arrange shows.

For HR management, you would ideally need an MBA from a reputed university to give you the eligibility to get into the HR departments of top-notch companies. Again, this does not need commerce, it needs good communication skills, good list of contacts and a good campus recruitment to start off.

So, I would say stay focussed on the 12th exams, complete it with good marks and then you can decide to change from science to commerce. Both are difficult and need good marks for you to enroll in reputed colleges. Again to be eligible to do your MBA in Human Resource management, you need a basic bachelor's degree (commerce or science).

CET would not help you with the line of career you have thought about.

  • You are currently in a 12th standard and wants to change a stream from science to commerce. For admission in of Commerce) you need 60% but you should get 70% above. Don't think about changing the field just give our best in 12th science. There are many reputed institute and recognized university where you can apply for a such as IGNOU university, mlsu university, RTU, GTU university,... etc. You did not specify your location so we can suggest reputed institute near by your area of living. Anyway you can search reviews online of the colleges and universities. You can also join CS foundation courses after 12th if you are intrested in commerce. As you wants to go with management stream then you need to choose BBA(Bachelor of Business Administration and then MBA(Master of Business Administration) where you'll learn about management. You can also get a best college through entrance exam but you have to qualify exam for getting best college for BBA. CET would not help you if you wants to go with commerce or management. Just give your best to get higher marks in 12th so you can take admission in any reputed institute without donation.

  • Shifting from any stream to commerce is comparatively easier than shifting to maths or science. I know students in Pondicherry University and VIT university where students from Science group joined in B.Com.

If you want Commerce to be your main stream or financial management or to start up a new business is your idea in future, choosing is the best option. Else, management is primary, you can opt for BBA.
Integrated MBA is theree, but I won't recommend it.
Because, after 3 years, you may have different idea, or you may like to pursue in different college. So, integrated MBA is not a good idea to choose, unless you have a strong desire for that particular specialization and particular college.

In BBA or B.Com, you will get 12th based accounts for only 1 semester. Rest of the accounts papers will be new to all students. All other papers will be theory and easily understandable. Commerce deals with the common business that you deal on your everyday life or you can relate easily by reading everyday's business news. So, read news papers, read 11th and 12th accounts book on your holidays. Learn accounting terms. (journal entries are important yet easy. ) Go to tuition prior to joining the course, if you are hesitant ask doubts in classes.
Remember, your faculty will give attention to you, if you mention that you are from science background. Trust in faculty, trust n your classmates, good people exist everywhere.

CET will not help you. But 75%+ in your 12th results itself will help you in getting commerce group in many colleges.
I hope, you have good understanding on yourself, you estimate your ability and dreams for your future. It will definitely lift you to the heights that you wish. People, who knows, what they want are highly recognized. Now, you know your needs, the suggestions will help you in making yourself fit to your needs.

All you have to do is
    Decide between and BBA/integrated MBA
Find college that offers your desired course
Find it's cut off. (generally 75%+)
    Apply on time
Always apply on alternative colleges too to the desired course.
Join the class with hope. Learning new things will never let you down.
    All the best.
