    Is Bachelor of Media Science eligible for government jobs?

    Wondering if you are eligible for a government job? Looking out for information about further scope of BMS? Check out this page for responses from experts.

    I have got Bachelor of Media Science (BMS). Am I eligible for government jobs? I have done it from NSHM Kolkata. I am not sure if I can apply for competitive exam like SSC Bank, Rail etc.I am worried if I am allowed to sit for such exam.
    If not then what are the possibilities for me? How can I be eligible for such exams or jobs?

  • Since the degree earned by you is from a recognised university and having its affiliation by UGC, you are entitled to appear in all such tests where the minimum qualification has been specified as the a graduation degree irrespective of the stream.
    This degree entitles you to appear all the tests for which you have raised the questions.
    You can go ahead for any government - job provided you qualify the written and oral tests as conducted by such services. Grab all the resources so as to be successful at the competitive Examinatin you are likely to appear.

  • The B Sc in Media Science from NSHM, Kolkata is awarded under the auspices of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Univeristy of Technology (old name: West Bengal University of Technology), Govt of W.B. So, you degree is recognized.

    For the IBPS bank recuirtment exams, the eligibility criteris is any graduation degree in any displine from Indian Government recognised university or an equivalent qualification recognised by the central government.
    For the Railway recruitment board exams, it is the same, graduate degree from a recognized university. You can take the bank or railway exams.

    With a Bachelor in media science, you have scope to explore a wide range of jobs as media broadcast, public relation officers, reporters or journalists for TV channels,newspapers etc.

    You can join some Masters course or diploma in your core area that is media and journalism and parallely prepare for various competitions also.

  • Media Science or Mass communication is an emerging subject in the present scenario which has good job potential. While opting for the career, you should choose a subject which you are interested and have good job avenues.

    A Bachelor in Media Science (BMSc) Degree is a degree course in the field of Mass Media which throws new challenges and opens for people from all walks of life with much job avenues. You can join as reporter/ journalist in newspapers, television (audio-visual) media and radio (audio) media. The degree in Mass Communication or Media Science has not confined to such jobs alone. It relates to radio, newspaper, television and the internet. Jobs like Broadcast Journalists, Fashion and Freelance Photographers, News Anchors, Public Relations Officers, Market Researchers, etc in Government and {Private sector are thrown open for such degree holders.

    Apart from the above, the various competitive examinations conducted by UPSC, SSC, BSRB, RRB and other recruiting agencies offer jobs to any Degree holder. As such the graduate in Media Science is eligible for such examinations/jobs too.


  • This course is good for opting a job in print media and electronic media. Many people with this qualification are not available and for specialised jobs in mass media will prefer this degree holder and the chances of getting higher once you start your career in the core area. My sincere advice is to concentrate on the core subjects jobs. You can become good news analyst and a good anchor for conducting online discussions etc. Of course, there is no doubt about your eligibility for all government and bank jobs.

  • NSHM, Kolkata is affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University Of Technology. The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). So the B.Sc. degree (in Media Science) obtained by you is recognized by UGC.

    As your Graduation degree is from a UGC-recognized University, you can apply for any Central Government and State Government job for which the eligibility condition is Graduation. You can also apply in Public Sector Banks and other Central and State Public Sector Undertakings.

    You should not have any doubt about it.

  • You are absolutely eligible for applying for government jobs. Most of the government jobs ask to provide a valid degree certificate from a recognized university irrespective of the stream you chose. So your degree BMS is not an obstacle for you in applying for government jobs. Keep checking this site and other sources for any government job postings and keep applying.
