  • RBI Scheduled banks are divided into two types of banks, they are

    1. Commercial Banks and
    2. Co-operative Banks

    And these Co-operative banks are further divided into 2, they are

    1. Urban Co-operative Banks and
    2. State Co-operative Banks

    Total number of Urban Co-operative Banks in India are 52 and State Co-operative Banks are 16.

    And Commercial Banks are divided into 4, they are

    1. Foreign Banks - Total 40 banks
    2. Regional Rural Banks - Total 196 banks
    3. Public Sector Banks - Total 27 banks
    4. Private Sector Banks - Total 30 banks

    Among public sector banks, State Bank of India and associate banks are 8 and other nationalized banks are 19. And among private sector banks, 22 banks are old and 8 banks are new.
