    Regarding eligibility for Tahsildar posting

    I having doubts regarding tahsildar posting. Can an engineering ( IT dept ) student be eligible for group 2nd tahsildar post?
    Tahsildar post comes under which group? And am I eligible to apply for that? Kindly clarify. I am planning to prepare for TNPSC.

  • A Tahsildar is a government official who holds responsibilities related to revenue of a village or a particular area. Tahsildar will have a power to issue government certificates like nativity certificate, birth certificate, residence certificate, ration card issue etc. This tahsildar position will be appointed by the state government.

    In TamilNadu, Tasildhar willbe appointed based on the candidate's score obtained in the TNPCS (Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission) Group 2 Examination. Minimum eligibility required to apply for TNPCS Group 2 exam is to qualify in Post Graduation degree in any subject or equivalent course from a recognized university. Age should be betwwen 18 years to 30 years.

    This TNPCS Group 2 exam consists of 2 papers. Each paper consists of 150 questions. Paper 1 contains questions related to General English, Science, Mathematics and Reasoning. And Paper 2contains questions relatedto History of India, Indian Constitution, Politics and Current Affairs. Duration of exam willbe 2 hours.


  • Historically, the post of Tehsildar is pertaining to administrative and revenue management of a taluka or tehsil in a district set up in our country. The District Magistrates looks after the whole district while Tehsildar takes care of his only tehsil.

    States have their own service commission and conduct entrance tests for the posts of Tehsildar through group 2 notifications.

    (a) Tehsildar is a Class-II (Group-B) Gazetted post under the State Government.
    (b) He works in a Taluk and enjoys various power relating to administration and revenue collection.
    (c) A Tehsildar is appointed through the State Public Service Commission examination.
    (d) Graduate in any discipline including Engineering Graduates can apply for State Public Service Examination.
    (e) So far as Tamil Nadu Public Service Examination is concerned, the maximum age limit for General category candidates is 32 years.
    (f) The preliminary examination is objective and qualifying in nature. The main examination is descriptive in nature. Like similar examinations, stress is given on General Studies paper which includes a vast area of subjects.
    (g) Final selection is done after a detailed personality test of 30 minutes duration (average).
