  • Bleeding gums may be an indication of a possible gum disease. Gum, bleeding may be due to plaque formation on the teeth.
The possible causes for this are
The main cause of bleeding gums is the formation of plaque at the gum line. This will lead to gingivitis or inflamed gums.
Plaque that is not removed will harden into tartar. This will lead to increased bleeding and a more advanced form of gum and jawbone disease known as periodontitis.
Other causes of bleeding gums include:
    Brushing too hard
Ill-fitting dentures or other dental appliances
    Improper flossing
Infection, which can be either in a tooth or the gum
    a vitamin C deficiency
    Vitamin K deficiency
For immediate stopping of bleeding take a piece of ice and wrap it in a cloth and place this near the gum and gently press. This will make you feel relieved and bleeding may also stop.
Never brush the teeth too hard. Use softer brushes and brush gently with a round moment of the brush on the teeth.
Better consult a dentist and get the required medication if the bleeding is continuing for longer periods.

    always confident

  • In my opinion, the person with bleeding gums should consult a professional dentist. Mention all the things like the first time you notice bleeding gum and what toothbrush & paste you use to brush your teeth. Follow what your dentist advises you.
If it is hard to consult a dentist soon, stop using the toothbrush if it is hard. Avoid giving pressure on your teeth and gums. Take the meals that are soft and easy to chew. Increase the intake of Vitamin C. Never ignore having a consultation with a professional dentist.

  • Bleeding gums is a symptom. So finding the cause is of prime importance. Sometimes a small intervention will only be required to stop the bleeding. Getting examined by a dentist is advised.

Bleeding gums could be starting of a destructive problem involving surrounding tissue around the teeth. The cause of bleeding gums could be of the following reason

    1. The prime cause might be due to the plaque deposition around the teeth and failure to remove it due to improper brushing. These plaque will slowly harden into calculus(tartar). This will be a favorite spot for the bacteria to multiply and cause problem to the gums. This causes bleeding in the gums during brushing. This is what happens when we see a blood stains in the brush during brushing.

    2. Too much pressure while bruising

    3. Vitamin C deficiency

    4. Vitamin K deficiency

    5.Blood clotting disease

    6. Taking blooding thinning medicine

    Visit dentist once in 6months
    Brush twice daily
    Drink plenty of water
    Salt water gargle
    Avoid tobacco
    Healthy diet

Note: I have seen previous message of using honey, baking soda these are not advised.

  • If a person complains of bleeding gums the first thing one should do is to fix an appointment with a dentist or more specifically with a periodontist. A dentist or a periodontist is the one who would then deal with your problem. Before starting any kind of treatment for bleeding gums it is necessary to find out the aetiology behind the bleeding gums.
The most common cause is the presence of food debris and plaque between the teeth and gums. There is a small crevice between the teeth and gums known as gingival sulcus. Food debris often gets deposited in this area which is somewhat difficult to clean. The bacteria in the debris grow with time and form bacterial plaque which is the most common aetiology behind bleeding gums. If this plaque doesn't get cleaned up it eventually gets hardened to form calculus. The calculus acts as a niche for further growth of bacteria and thus increase in gingival bleeding. This calculus cannot be cleaned by normal toothbrushing and requires professional removal by the dentist through hand or machine driven instruments and the process is known as scaling. Scaling can be either supragingival that is cleaning above the gums and subgingival that is removing plaque and calculus that are present below the gingiva. For gingival bleeding to stop completely one needs to undergo thorough supragingival and subgingival scaling. 7- 10 days after thorough scaling the gingiva gets healthy and bleeding stops. Certain gels and ointments are also available in the market that claims to work wonders in case of bleeding gums but the true fact is that they work only when the main causative factor that is plaque and calculus has been removed.
Other causes of gingival bleeding are certain systemic diseases like bleeding and clotting disorders like haemophilia platelet deficiency or certain medications like aspirin or nutritional deficiency like vitamin C deficiency. They need a physician's consultation.
