  • You have a M.Com in Advanced Business Statistics. If you satisfy the basic eligibility criteria including the minimum marks of 55% then you can apply for the PhD.

    1. Why not consider applying for a job as a Lecturer in Commerce in a Government or a reputed private college.

    2. Register in the various job portal (,, even UGC now has a section for academic jobs for NET qualified candidates (

    3. Currently there are jobs advertised for candidates who have NET JRF in commerence

    4. Once you do this (UGC NET JRF is valid for two years), you can focus on doing a PhD by distance mode. IGNOU is a respected organisation that has a PhD in Commerce which you can complete in 3-6 years.

  • If you are keen to do PhD then there are many good institutions where you can register as a full-time research work.

What I will suggest is with your good academic career it is better to join a job and gain experience, even teaching job will enhance your knowledge to a great degree. You can pursue your research goals even in correspondence mode from universities like IGNOU.

Please remember that the job condition is going tight day by day and after completing PhD also you will have to struggle for same jobs which today you are likely to garner.

So be practical and pursue your academic aspirations along the side of your job.

    Knowledge is power.

  • You are an M.Com. degree holder and have qualified NET. Now you have to decide your priority/preference. If you want to pursue PhD under JRF, you have to visit a guide preferably from a University near your place of residence. You may take the help of your College/University professors to find out a guide under whom you can pursue PhD in a chosen topic.

If your priority is lectureship, you can apply as and when such vacancies are advertised. You can apply anywhere in India as you have qualified NET (SLET is the examination for lectureship in a particular state).

I would advise you to commence your PhD under a suitable guide at the earliest and simultaneously start applying for vacancies in colleges. In this way, you can save valuable time.

  • You have acquired a post - graduation degree in commerce and even have qualified JRF.
Your future seems to be bright in any of the relevant profession you choose.
CA is definitely a respected profession and with the accumulation of experience of five years, you may get in the job in a multinational - company with the perks and emoluments highly satisfying to you. However, you must have the inclination for it.
The other option would be to join a private college as a status of Lecturer and continue your teaching job and in the meanwhile look out for a guide who must be an eminent professor having published outstanding journals and have the experience of attending seminars of the scholars dwelling upon lights in his specialised subject. You can have the consultation of the University - professors and ultimately choose your guide in your commerce - stream. You will have to work under his guidance and continue your thesis as assigned by him. The initial period may be hectic one because of innumerable consultation of journals/ books in order to extract the relevant points pertaining to your current thesis.
You may even choose IGNOU for the perusal of your doctorate degree in commerce. IGNOU is a well established university providing education in distance - mode and in course of continuation of your research, you would be assisted by a competent guide helping you in achieving your goal.
You may even take the help of Naukari. Com in order to get a suitable assignment for JRF fellows having qualified from NET.

  • As you have qualified in NET you can apply against the vacancies of lecturers advertised time to time. Joining as a lecturer is a very good career option and you can pursue your PhD while working as a lecturer.

Anyway if you are interested to pursue a full-time PhD then there are many good colleges and universities around and you can apply in them and see if with your qualifications you can get some scholarship.
