It is not a big problem. You can apply for new mark sheet very easily. To apply online, please visit the official site of your board. Most of the board have given the facility to the student to download the duplicate mark sheet from the official site. You need your roll number, year of examination. I am providing the procedure for printing the duplicate mark sheet from MPBSE:
    1. Visit mponline.gov.in
    2. Click on application
    3. You will find MPBSE. Click on it.
    4. Click on the counter-based form
    5. Click on 5th option print/ verification mark sheet.
    6. A form will be open where you need to provide roll number, year, exam type, etc.
    7. Paid the fees accordingly.
    8. You would be able to print new mark sheet.
After printing goes to the school and takes the signature of your principal with the seal.

    Honesty is the best policy.

    1. The first and foremost thing is to lodge an FIR in the Police Station where you live. You are required to keep a copy of the receipt.
    2. You are also required to publish a classified advertisement informing general people about the loss of marksheet. The copy of the advertisement is required to be preserved.
    3. Temporarily, you can download the marsheet from the website of the Board from where you appeared in SSLC in the year 2015.
    4. Thereafter, you have to formally apply for the duplicate marksheet with seal of the Board either online/offline. You are required to submit the copy of the duplicate marksheet, copy of the Admit Card, copy of the receipt of FIR and copy of the classified advertisement along with your application. In case of online application, you have to submit the scanned copy of the aforestated documents.
    5. If your application is complete in all respect, you can expect a duplicate marksheet duly signed and stamped within one month.

Beware! I question everything and everybody.

If any degree certificate or consolidated mark sheet is lost, it is better to lodge an FIR. Because, if it has been misused for taking a bank loan or a getting a government job at some point of time, then you will not be troubled later by the authorities when the fraud comes to light or is investigated.

In your case it is almost three years since you lost the certificate, do you have a genuine reason for the delay? This may be asked by the police/school or the board.

Many SSLC boards allow online application or downloads. You need to have your registration number, hall ticket, date and year of the exams, Identity proof and money or DD for the requisite fees.

The procedure varies slightly from state to state.
    1. Letter request/Prescribed application form duly filled and signed by the Head of the institution
    2. Reference number, Hall ticket, Register number etc
3.Submit with the fees to the board
    4. The board would check your details, their record and then a duplicate marks card will be sent to the secretary of the state SSLC board to be signed.
    5. Then it would be despatched by speed post to the institution where you studied.
    6. It takes around 1 month to get the duplicate mark sheet. In Karnataka, there is a speedy process if you pay extra money
    7. It would be better if you apply in duplicate or triplicate so that you have 1-2 spare mark sheet in case you lose one. Please keep the acknowledgment receipt handy from the board because it would be useful there is a delay or misplaced post.

With a copy of the same approach personally the School authorities with an application request seeking a Duplicate Mark Sheet. This is to be done immediately without delay as the every time you taken by postponing, leads to delay in their providing mark sheet duplicate copy as years passed. Moreover your personal approach is important to the concerned authorities mere posting letters are not useful.
