    How to find out the radiation emission level of a smartphone?

    Have a query about checking radiation level of a smartphone? Looking out for inbuilt feature or any free software which can do so? You can scroll through this page and get to know the best way to check the radiation level of a smartphone.

    I came across a news feed today about a list of smartphones which emit the maximum radiation and those which emit the least, based on a research study. Now, such studies will have sophisticated tools for such research.
    What about the general user?
    Is there any way for me to find out how much radiation is emitted from my phone?
    Is there an inbuilt feature in the phone or some free software that I can use to find out?

  • Radio Frequency electromagnetic waves are harmful for body especially in amount above the safe limit. There are many other situations where we are exposed to these radiations albeit in controlled doses like MRI scan.

    The effect of these radiations on the body is found with the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) which is defined as the power absorbed by the unit mass of the body tissue in presence of these types of electromagnetic fields. SAR measurements are done for the electromagnetic frequency range from 10 kHz to 10 GHz. The SAR value will change depending upon the relative position, distance and part of the body exposed to such radiations from the mobile phone.

    As per United States standards the SAR level has to be less than 1.6 watts per kilogram (W/kg) taken over the volume containing a mass of 1 gram of tissue that is absorbing the most signal. European Union stipulates for the EU countries, the SAR limit as or below 2 watts per kilogram (W/kg) averaged over the 10 g of tissue absorbing the most signal. India follows the US standards.

    As already mentioned above in other answer, *#07# code is used to find out the SAR of a particular phone. In some models this code may not work then we have to refer to the detailed manual of the mobile.

    SAR stands for Specific Absorption Rate which is a measure of the amount of radio frequency energy absorbed by the body when the device is used. The maximum allowable emissions level for a phone is 1.6 Watts per Kilogram (1.6 W/kg), according to the Federal Communication Commission. If your phones show that the emission is below the limit, it is safe. The lower the level, the safer the device. However, certain devices don't show the exact value but show that it is below the maximum limit. So, they let user hope it is better for the user.

    Radiation Emissions are a major concern of the current world. We all use mobile phones for our convenience. However, the radiation emitted from tour phones are harmful to the body. Not only the radiation from the mobiles that harm us but many kinds of radiation are also emitted from different sources - many are there which we are less concerned about. The cell phone towers emit radio waves and radiation in all areas where we have network coverage. So, it is almost impossible to avoid these radiations completely.

    However, it is good to avoid as much as possible or reduce the intensity of the radiation. As the phone continuously emits radiation, it is adviced not to keep the phone close to you when you are sleeping. You may have an alarm, still put is far - thereby you will be forced to walk to it to snooze the alarm in the morning which can help you to get off the sleep if you are too lazy in the morning.
