Interested in studying MD -BHMS? Searching for details of the eligibility criteria for taking admission in this program? Check out this page for suggestions from experts for your queries.

I am a final year BHMS student. I just want to know whether is it compulsory to have minimum aggregate of 60% in BHMS to do MD because some sites are showing that it is compulsory to have minimum aggregate of 60% to do MD and others are showing that the minimum criteria is to have a BHMS degree from recognised university.

  • For getting admission to MD after BHMS you have to appear for an entrance test called The All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test. It is a computer-based test (CBT) conducted by the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi on behalf of Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
The eligibility criteria for attending this entrance test is a pass in BHMS and have completed one year of internship or/are likely to complete the internship before the date of counselling, No minimum percentage of marks is prescribed here. They will have a cut off mark and based on the marks you will be given a rank and qualification for admission to MD.
Then you have to apply for different colleges for admission and the eligibility criteria for all colleges will be a rank in the above entrance test and some college may insist for 60% marks in the graduation degree. This will vary from college to college.

    always confident

  • Earlier after completing the BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathy and Master of Surgery) course, the students were applying in different colleges or universities for pursuing MD in the related subjects.

Now, this is centralised by the Govt and the selection is done on the basis of a combined test which is known as All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET) conducted by All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi. MD/MS postgraduate courses for all AYUSH Colleges/ Institutions/ University/ Deemed University are offered through this entrance test.

There is no such minimum 60% attained in BHMS criterion for appearing in this exam. Only thing is you must have completed your BHMS along with internship and hold a valid BHMS degree.

    Knowledge is power.

  • Prior to introduction of centralised test conducted by AYUSH for the BHMS aspirants, different universities had different norms and in order to screen the aspirants, there was also the consideration of marks obtained in BHMS and the minimum mark was set 60 percent or beyond this to be eligible for appearing the written test.
Now with the present system, there is an uniform pattern where selection of the candidates are to be made on the basis of securing marks in the written test and it must be above the cut - off points as decided by the committee of selection.
Earlier pattern of securing a minimum of 60 percent marks has been waived. However, the BHMS degree obtained must be from a recognised university wth the affiliation of Ayush Council.
