Supreme court judgement regarding BTech distance education

Worried about Supreme Court judgement regarding BTech distance education? Searching for detailed information regarding the validity norms? Check out this page and get our ISC experts inputs for your queries.

I completed DME in 1990 by Karnataka technical board. In 2002 I joined BTech Mech by lateral admission in JNRYU and completed in 2007.
Now Supreme court has suspended 2001-2005 BTech degrees from JNRYU.
Is my certificate valid or not?
Is there any relaxation given for lateral admission?

  • The B.Tech degrees awarded by the University for the students who studied the course through correspondence course are only invalid. But not the degrees obtained through regular study. Your degree will be considered as a regular degree as you have studied the course in person in the university and obtained the degree. So you need not to worry. By all means, your degree is valid.

  • Supreme court after examining the details of engineering education imparted through the distance mode came to a conclusion that imparting an engineering course through the distance mode was not permissible without the approval of AICTE. The court categorically told that engineering colleges in a particular state have no right to extend their limit beyond the state territory for imparting distance education. It also observed that the post facto approval by UGC in these matters were also defunct. With this the court ruled that distance degrees with effect from 2001-2005 session are not to be considered until unless AICTE takes a view of verifying them through additional tests or exams.

All these stipulations are for those candidates who have completed their degrees in distance mode. In your case you have come through the legally valid lateral mode in the regular stream of engineering so there is nothing to worry as your degree is very much valid.

  • I completed B Tech in distance mode by lateral entry from JNRVU in 2002. Is the degree effective or not and is any M Tech degree by distance mode from a deemed university eligible or not?
