After passing 12 with PCM CBSE want to give NEET exam

Are you wanting to give NEET exam? Wondering what to do if only attempted PCM? Check out this page and get advice from experts and decide how to proceed ahead.

I have passed class 12 with PCM CBSE 2018. Now I want to give NEET exam.
What can I do? Should I take Biology as additional subject from NIOS or any other possibility or do I have to redo 11 12 with PCB?
Is there any possibility to do from CBSE?

  • In order to qualify the NEET test, you need to have Biology as one of the subjects in your science combination apart from Physics and Chemistry. Since you did not go through Biology in your class eleven and twelve, you may not be in a position to write the NEET examination.
The following are the essential condition to be fulfilled prior to appearing NEET test.
    1) The minimum age of the aspirant must not be less than 17 years of age while appearing for the test and the maximum limit has been fixed as 25 years. However, a relaxation of five year is allowed for OBC, SC and ST candidates.
    2) Minimum scoring of marks is 50 percent along with Physics, Chemistry and Biology combination.
    3) The maximum attempt for the said examination is three times and hence one should qualify the test within this prescribed time.
In your case, Biology is not in your combination, you have to reappear in the examination along with Biology and for your further query, you may meet your Principal of your school.

  • Those students who have done their class XII with PCM can not appear for NEET as it requires Biology stream.

You have already incurred delay in identifying your real interest and aptitude area but still there are things you can try.

I am not sure about the present status but earlier there was a provision that a PCM stream student after passing class XII can again appear in exam next year for only Biology paper and can attend the classes of Biology also. This was a common facility at that time and my younger brother did his class XII Biology like this and he appeared in NEET (at that time it was known as PMT in our state UP) and luckily qualified also and after doing his MBBS from GSVM Medical College, Kanpur he became a doctor.

So, please explore this possibility by enquiring in your college or education office.

If CBSE does not have this facility, you can even try in a ICSE college by taking admission there if it is admissible in their procedure.

As this is a rare option you have to deeply explore it with them as many office staff may not be familiar with this modality.

    Knowledge is power.

  • you are not eligible to write NEET examination after qualifying class 12th (PCM). To be eligible for NEET examination, one should complete 12th standard or an equivalent examination with 50% aggregate marks of Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects from a recognised board. As you have not studied Biology subject in your 12th standard, you are not eligible to apply for NEET examination. If you are interested in NEET exam you have to study 11th and 12th again with Biology in addition Physics, Chemistry and English.
According to the Central Board of Secondary Education's release on 08th Feb 2018, the candidates who completed their 12th as a Private candidate or through NIOS is not eligible for appearing in the NEET examination.

    always confident

  • After completing your class XII with PCM stream, you can again go for another stream that is Biology and do class XII again. I am not sure whether you will have to do it in all the subjects or only Biology.

In any case you will have to spend one or two years of your precious student life in this pursuit.

It is not understood why you had chosen a different stream when you had so much interest in medical line. Anyway, there is still time and you can review your aspirations and career ambitious in your life. There are always such times in life when mid course corrections become a reality to be taken care of.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

  • 1. You did not study Biology at X+II level. So, you are not allowed to appear in NEET as per the present rule.
    2. Most of the Boards won't allow you to take admission in XIth Standard after passing X+II Standard from another Board.
    3. I would strongly advise you not to take admission in XIth Standard concealing information.
    4. You should have thought about appearing in NEET at the time of taking admission in XIth Standard and chose subjects accordingly. As you did not do this, please don't waste two valuable years of your life and resources of your guardian.
    5. Go for the available options, which are aplenty.

  • I think the same solutions in these type situations-
To give the NEET examination on must do his/her higher school education in physics, chemistry, biology otherwise he/she will not eligible to appear in this examination.

I think he/she can do his/her higher schooling again with the above said subjects.

  • Since you have not taken biology, you are not allowed to sit for NEET. Also, it may not mean that you will never get a chance to study courses related to biology or medical professions. So if you have opted only Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with that you can check for opting for the Biomedical Engineering course. This course may not require a Biology course in the 12th. If you have an interest in studying the medical or biology-related course and have not taken Biology in 11 and 12, you can start with this Biomedical Engineering course and later you can carry forward or advance with your career related to Biology or medical.

  • For appearing in NEET, you should have completed 10+2 with 50% marks in physics, chemistry and biology. As mentioned above, you have completed 10+2 with PCM group so you are not eligible for NEET exam. The minimum age should be 17 years and there is no upper age limit for this exam.
