  • Fungal infection is the most common form of plant disease. They have generally a slow onset and take time in harming the plants. Still, they are required to be handled in time to avoid that devastation they can bring to the plants.

Anti fugal sprays are easily available in the market to combat with this problem but there are some home remedies which are also very effective. Some of these are -

    1. Cinnamon: A little powder of cinnamon can be sprinkled on the plants which will help them to recover back to normalcy after the fungal attack.

    2. Chamomile tea: Spraying the Chamomile tea on the plants is a good cure for fungal attack. This tea is an effective fungicide.

    3. Apple Cider Vinegar: Take one tablespoon of vinegar and mix it with 3 ltrs of water. Stir it well and keep it in spray bottles. Wherever you see fungal spots sprinkle it there.

    4. Baking Soda: Take one tablespoon of baking soda, half a tablespoon of vegetable oil and mix it in 3 ltrs of water and keep in spray bottles. Spray it on affected plants.

    5. Milk Spray: Milk can change the pH level at the plant leave surfaces and helps in preventing fungus to grow. One part of milk in nine parts of water is sufficient to make spray of milk.

The above remedies may be used once in two days in the beginning but later on once in a week spraying will be sufficient.

  • A fungus is an organism and this can live anywhere in the air, in the soil, on plants and in water. Some of these fungi are good for the plants but some are harmful. The infections caused by these fungi are not very harmful if we diagnose the same early and treat it. We should monitor the plants continuously. Once you treat, there is no rule that it will not reoccur again. The following may help you in treating this problem.
1 Add.one tablespoon of vinegar in one gallon of water and spray on them to treat fungal infection. This is useful for all types of plants.
    2. Add one tablespoon of soda and two and a half tablespoons of vegetable oil to a gallon of water. Shake the mixture very well and add one-half teaspoon of castile soap to this mixture. Mix well and use. Please remember to mix well before you spray this mixture every time.
    3. Boil a large bunch of chopped chives in water. Filter out the solids and use the liquid to treat the plants.
    4. One cup of horseradish roots is to be mixed with two cups of water. keep for twenty-four hours and filter out the roots. Dilute this liquid with two quarts of water.
    5. Cow Milk is also a good material for this.mix one part milk to nine parts water and use it.
    6. Spray Chamomile tea on the seedlings and on the soil to treat damping off disease,
    7. Sprinkle a little cinnamon over the plants and the surrounding area. It will kill fungi.
    8. 3% hydrogen peroxide can be used to spray directly on leaves to prevent both fungal and bacterial infections.

  • Infection in the plant is the most common phenomena observed in the plants and a timely check up can only yield the output and hence we need to take up a timely action for the prevention of the same. The following points would help in arresting the infection.
    1) Spray of Apple - cider Vinegar by taking the same around one table spoon and a slight amount of common salt ( roughly 5 GM) in a gallon of water twice a day would arrest the fungal infection.
    2) Hydrogen- peroxide available in the market has to be purchased and this needs to be diluted by adding at least three litres of water, its sprinkling on the roots and leaves would kill the fungus.
    3) Cinamom - powder is known for its anti - bacterial and antifungal effects. Take around 5 GM of Cinamom powder and the same is to be dissolved in three litres of water and its spray on the leaves can control infection effectively.
    4) Sodim carbonate, Potassium- carbonate and Ammonium- carbonate may be used as the effective tool for eradicating cation of infection but the former one need some horticultural oil to make the same potent to control fungus and the later two words update work effectively without the addition of the base - oil. One needs to make solution by adding around 50 GM of such chemicals in 5 litre of water and spraying should be done twice weekly to arrest the infection.
    5) Neem - oil of any reputed company is to be taken and an emulsion is to be made by adding 30 ml of this oil with around three litres of water and spraying is to be carried out on alternate days to control the fungus and bacterial infection.

  • As already mentioned in the answers above there are different remedies for fungal attack. In the organic way, what I do here is mixing five ml. of neem oil with one litre of rice portridge. Portridge must be at least one night old, better if one day old. The neem oil must be well mixed with the portridge. This mix can be sprayed on both the sides of the leaves attacked by fungus. Better to spray on all plants whether attacked or not in a garden. Every alternate day this may be continued. When positive reactions are seen reduce the frequency of application and slowly stop, if completely cured.

  • It is good to sprinkle the ash made out of cow dung cakes. Cow dung cakes normally available at the shops nearby Hindu temples. You can buy some and make ash by burning in fire. Of course smoke will come while burning but is itself an insect driver. If any chronical asthma patients in the house they may stay away if they want while firing the cow dung cakes.

  • Mathi,
If anyone of above mention treatment works then please reply here. I cut my few vegetables from stem due to same problem. I tried spraying tea water but that did not help. Expecting a quicker and non plant harmful solution.
