Unsure if your M.Sc. Maths PG qualification through a distance education program makes you eligible for a Govt. post as a Jr. Lecturer? Quickly refer to the experts' advice provided here to know if you are eligible to appear for the recruitment exam and apply for the post.

I completed my MSc (Mathematics) through Kuvempu University, Karnataka in distance mode and in a single sitting, i. e. in one year. I want to know whether I am eligible to appear for the Government post of Junior Lecturer and appear for the recruitment exam for this post.

  • The exam for selection of Junior lecturers in the Govt Intermediate colleges is conducted by state Govt education authorities and there is a good rush of candidates appearing for this examination and the competition is quite tough so one has to prepare for it with serious efforts, hard work and concentration.

The eligibility for appearing in this exam is a masters degree with at least 55% marks. The university from which one has completed PG should be recognized under UGC.

Now, Kuvempu University is a public state university in Shimoga, Karnataka. It was recognized by the UGC in 1994 and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The university has its headquarters at Jnana Sahyadri Campus, Shimoga, Karnataka.

So your distance learning degree is valid same as a regular degree. With this you can apply for the exam for the post of Jr Lecturer.

    Knowledge is power.

  • If the university from which you obtained your PG degree is recognised by UGC, then the degree you obtained through distance education is also eligible only provided their distance education school is also having UGC recognition.
Coming to your case the university you have studied is Kuvempu University. It is a public state university in Shimoga, Karnataka. It was recognized by the UGC in 1994. It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities also. So the degree given by the university is valid only.
The minimum marks required for this post is 55%. If you obtained this you can apply for the post.
The Junior Lecturer's selection will be based on your performance in the written test and then in the interview. The test will be conducted by the State public service commission. You wait for the announcement and apply. All the best to you.

  • Your post - graduation degree in Mathematics through the Kuvempu- university from Karnataka would not pose problem in respect of recognition since this Univesity is recognised from UGC since 1994 and therefore it has got acceptance for all recruitment and educational purpose. It is one of the members of the association of Indian Universities.
Now with regard to your apprehension that you appeared in the single sitting to clear your examination, I would say that the way how the University is conducting examination is not that much important but its recognition status in terms of UGC is important.
However, ensure that you have secured a minimum of 55 percent marks in your M.Sc ( Mathematics) so that you fulfil the criteria for the selection of Jr Lecturership.
You will be selected subject to your performance in the written and oral test to be conducted by State Public Service Commission.

  • If your University and the specific course is approved by the UGC, then your degree can be used. As far as I know, your University is approved by the UGC, but I am not sure about the course. You may visit the Directorate of Distance Education of the University and get the reliable information.

If the course is also recognized and if you clear the NET on the subject, i.e., Mathematics, you will be eligible for the position of Junior Lecturer in Mathematics.

  • Yes Definitely you can appear for recruitment exam. Kuvempu University is recognized by government and the PG degree awarded from Kuvempu University is same as regular degree. Distance education has value provided the university you choose. In recent days there are many universities awarding graduation and PG. But we need to check whether its recognized. Where your university is UGC affiliated also. You can apply for Jr lecturer post. But Before applying just have a look at their guidelines and terms of conditions.
