  • A central university is formed by the act of Parliament. There are many (about 46) central universities in our country approved by UGC. There is a special act in the form of Central Universities Act 2009 that regulates and governs these universities. These universities come under the purview of Department of Higher Education of the HRD Ministry of the Government of India.

These central universities are permitted to award their own degree for the approved courses but they are restricted from granting affiliation to other colleges.

The job profile of an assistant professor consists of -
    1. Develop, implement and use innovative methods of teaching.
    2. Develop professional logistics to improvise student performance.
    3. Guide and mentor students in research projects and other assignments.
    4. Evaluate and monitor student's academic progress throughout the course duration.

    6. Supervise, guide, help and support teaching assistants.
    7. Participate in university activities and departmental committees.
    8. Assist and support senior professors/ professors in their day to day engagements.

Generally the assistant professors will remain in the same university throughout their career and in very special case the ministry can give a person change of the university subject to availability of position there.
