UPSC coaching for CDS Exam. Is it a good suggestion?

Your brother has acquired the B.Tech degree and now interested for the defence - line. In order to have the right exposure for the CDS examination, he would like to have a coaching for the CDS course.

Defence department jobs are two types. One is directly in the armed forces. The second one is in DRDO and Defence production units. These days all the defence undertakings and DRDO recruitment are mainly going by the GATE rank. Many Scientist posts and production posts are being filled based on GATE marks. So I think first your brother should concentrate on GATE examination and he can get coaching for GATE exam.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will conduct Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination for recruitment of various vacancies under Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers Training Academy.

CDS is for directly into the military forces whereas GATE is for DRDO and Production unit of defence.

If your brother is very much particular about the defence sector, CDS is required. As suggested by you general UPSC examination will be very much general and will not concentrate on one particular aspect. It will be very brad in its coverage.

Unfortunately, your question doesn't have any meaning, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is a Constitutional body which conducts examinations for top-level Central Government Officers' positions. Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination is one such examination conducted by UPSC every year. UPSC does not provide any coaching for CDS examination.

In all major cities of India, there are reliable coaching institutions for coaching of CDS or other examinations conducted by the UPSC. Your brother must check it in your city, i.e, Hyderabad and take admission in a specialized course for CDS. He must remember that the examination pattern of CDS is different than the pattern of Indian Civil Services on other examinations conducted by the UPSC.
