  • You can go for commerce line. For a banking sector job study in the commerce line is the best.

  • 12th students are eligible for bank clerk posts. If they are any advertisements from the banks for these posts, she can apply. But the competition is very high and she has to fare well in both written as well as an oral test also. Many graduates and Postgraduates will also be appearing for these posts these days. Even engineering graduates are also trying for these posts. So she has to work hard and get proper coaching and put on a very good effort to get selected.

I suggest that she should concentrate on her studied and complete graduation in commerce. While studying she can also put in some efforts and try to get good coaching for the entrance tests. Even she can apply for some jobs and appear for the written test so that she will understand the methodology of these entrance tests and she will get acquainted these tests. This experience will help her.
Once she finishes her graduation she will become eligible for POs also. She has to get coaching a good institute so that she will get good support. Once she gets ready for PO post, it will become easy for her to score more in clerical grade examinations.
Once she gets selected let her practice facing the interview. If you have any officer working in a bank you ask him to give some tips regarding the interview. It is better if he can conduct some sample interviews, the candidate will get to know the methodology of interview and chances of getting a job in the bank will increase.

  • As per the latest advertisement for recruitment of clerk by SBI (Notification is at: https://www.sbi.co.in/webfiles/uploads/files/careers/11042019_SBI_CLERICAL_RECT_ADVERTISEMENT_2019.pdf), the eligibility for applying is Graduation.

In view of the above, I would advise your niece to take admission in Graduation and simultaneously start undertaking coaching for Bank PO and Bank Clerical examinations. The examination pattern is totally different and there is no relationship with subjects to be taken in Graduation.

I think, as a bright student, she can undergo the pressure of both (Graduation and Banking ccoaching) and would be successful in both.

  • It is really tough time for the job - seekers and as a result we can see even the overqualified candidates such as Engineering - graduates, MBA's, post graduate degree holders in different subjects make beeline even for the clerical jobs. So, in order to secure the job even for the clerical nature, you need a thorough preparation in that line. You need to face both written and oral test and final selection would be made on the combined performance of these tests. This requires a specialised coaching from some reputed institute to clear the tests under their guidance.
However, it would be better to defer the immediate gain by a way of getting a job at this stage and think for better future by taking up your further studies for the graduation. This will open up new avenues in numerous jobs such as Probationary Officers jobs in both Nationlised and Private Banks, Probationary - officers of LIC, Continuation of MBA through some prestigious Institute or even you can persue MCA for getting job - assignment in IT sectors.
If interested for teaching in Higher Secondary Schools, you can persue B. Ed degree or still better achieve the post graduate degree of your liking with at least 55 percent marks and clear the eligibility test for the Lecturership in a government - college.
Even you can try for IAS, if you have a passion for this through your hard labour after your graduation.

  • Congratulations to score 97% in 12th. It is really great to get such a good score. There are various exams for 12th pass students like clerk level, office assistant etc. She can prepare forIBPS, SSC and various bank examinations.

Better to complete Graduation first, that will open up multiple career options in government banking sectors. As she scored 97% in 12th, seems she is very studious. Please encourage her to complete graduation by opting B.Com and then let her prepare for banking sector jobs. She will definitely crack the good Jobs and better post in banking sector.

I would advise you to visit below important pages of ISC, read the questions and experts guidelines carefully and let her decide the best path.

  • Career making requires a look on the available options and then deciding to go for one of them based on the interest of the student. It is a fact that a student will do excellent in his area of interest rather than something which is forced on him by the elders. So identifying the interest is one of the crucial things which is to be completed early in the students life so that he gets prepared mentally to achieve it.

For those who have an interest in commerce, business and industry, going for commerce stream makes sense. In that line one can pursue for a banking career by appearing in IBPS exam, can learn financial and accounting packages and try for the job in the industry. Generally these avenues will start opening only after graduation except for bank clerk. After graduation one can think of pursuing M.Com. or CA or MBA in finance or course in Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or course in Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Financial Risk Manager (FRM) etc and there are many more such options when you enter this stream.

Many people have inherent interest for teaching. They are fascinated with he world of teachers and professors. They can plan their career in that line by either going for B.Ed. mode after graduation for teaching job in schools or M.A./ M.Com. and NET (National Eligibility Test) mode for lectureship in colleges and universities. If the student has interest in research work and research projects then after PhD one can directly try for lectureship in colleges and universities without going for NET route.

That is not the end of our aspirations. There are a plethora of competitive exams in our country ranging from state subordinate services to coveted central administrative services like IAS/ IFS/ IPS etc. There are exams for appointments in Railways and there are many PSUs where time to time vacancies are advertised and entrance tests are conducted. There is tough competition in these exams but seeing the percentage of your niece in her 12th exam it is apparent that if she does hard work she can after her graduation compete even in a tough exam. Only thing is one has to see the trend of earlier question papers and prepare in those lines as most of the places questions are asked related to GK, General English, Reasoning, Logical approach and Mathematical abilities etc.

One of the most important thing that is to be noted is that whatever be the aspirations and ambitions of a student be, it is necessary to prepare for it right from today. It is the cumulative hard work that counts and not the studies just before a few months of the exams.

    Knowledge is power.

  • The fact is without completing Graduation, she would not be able to appear in Clerks' Grade or Bank PO Grade. It would be most appropriate for her to simultaneously go for coaching for banking along with Graduation.

I reiterate that without completing Graduation she would not be able to join a Public Sector Bank.
