  • B.Ed after Bachelors of engineering.

Wondering how to study BEd after engineering? Looking out for details of NCTE approved face to face Bed program? Here, on this Ask Expert page you can check out responses from experts and decide how to plan for Bed program.

I am primary teacher for the past 5 years in a reputed private school. I took up teaching right after my engineering. At that time doing BEd was not a prerequisite but after 5 years my employee said that Bed is a must to be teacher .
When I checked out for doing BEd one should also have any NCTE approved face to face mode program for two years. Please clarify what should be done in this regard.

  • Engineering graduates can also do B.Ed. and can teach in primary classes. It is very well allowed. As you are already in job you can consider for going for B.Ed. in distance mode. There are many universities which offer B.Ed. on distance mode and one can get enrol there to pursue this important degree. They will check your engineering degree for enrolling you in B.Ed. and your experience will be handy to you and can be considered as the teaching practices and teaching part in the B.Ed. course. So your advantage is obvious. Another thing is you can carry on with your job along with attending the distance mode course of B.Ed.

    Knowledge is power.

  • It depends if you want to teach in engineering college then you didn't require any BEd for that and if you want to continue with the same school then you require to do BEd. Also if you don't have time and are working in a school for a few years then you can do B.Ed corresponding or distant school/college. There you don't require to go to the classes daily. There are many universities where you can do it:

    1.Tamil Nadu Open University
2.Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi

  • Thank you for your response but sir could you clarify if I hv to take up NCTE face to face mode training before applying for BED

  • There is no necessity of taking up any face to face training before applying for B.Ed.
Any Engineering graduate can do B.Ed. As you have working experience as a teacher for more than 5 years, you can do BEd through correspondence mode also. There are many institutions offering this course by distance mode. The admissions will be generally based on your rank in the admission test. So get prepared for the entrance test and join B.Ed through the correspondence course. Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. Osmania University, Hyderabad and Venkateswara University, Tirupathi, IGNOU, Delhi are also offering this course through distance mode.
If you want to continue your career as a teacher B.Ed is a must. Without that, you may not eligible to get jobs in government schools as a Teacher and you will not be getting full salary as per scales also. So you should do it as fast as possible.
It is not very difficult to get a seat in BEd through correspondence mode. Please start up and complete it fast.

  • In my knowledge NCTE is a statuary body and you don't need to have face to face mode training.

  • Since you are basically an Engineering graduate and you are interested to have a B.Ed degree in order to have a permanent career in the teaching line.
Taking up a B. Ed course in the regular mode would mean your discontinuation from the present teaching assignment and hence undertaking the same through the distance mode such as IGNOU, Manipal Distance Education, Karnataka Open University etc would be favourable options.
Choose any one of the same and acquire the degree of B.Ed.
Suppose you have chosen IGNOU as your ultimate destination to persue B.Ed and once you pass out through the distance mode, ask the university officials to provide you a letter of recognition confining to NCTE also known as National Council of Teacher Education established in 1993. Your written request in the form of applications would be forwarded to NCTE so that you receive a recognition certificate issued by NCTE.
