  • Once you are qualified in MA in second class, you are eligible to register for your M.Phil or Ph D in any university. These days many universities are conducting entrance test for admission to M.Phil. So you have to select the university where you want to do your M.Phil or PhD and contact a Professor there. The procedure will be varying from university to university. Some universities want a minimum of 55% marks but some want only 2nd class.
Already you are working as a teacher. Now with your MA and BEd, you are eligible to become a junior lecturer in any junior college. While working in the school or college you can register for a part-time PhD or M.Phil and qualification improvement programme (QIP).
I suggest you get into a junior college as a junior lecturer through State public service commission and then think of M Phil or PhD.

  • Let us discuss M.Phil: MPhil means "Master of Philosophy". The minimum qualification for doing M.Phil. is at least 55% marks in the aggregate in your Masters like M.Com, MBA, MIB and another equivalent to the MBA degree from any recognized Universities. The course duration will be 2 years & it offers 6 specializations Accounting, Finance, International Business, Marketing, Organization Behavior, and development and Faculty of Commerce & Business. Generally, the selection procedure will be through Entrance test + written test & a personal interview and Sometimes they are selected directly (NET/NET-JRF) he must possess 50% marks in UG & PG. It is a less advanced course than P.hD. The MPhil degree generally referred to as a pre-requisite to doing a Ph.D. degree.

Ph.D. means "Doctor of Philosophy". it is an advanced course than M.Phil & it is a 5-year course & the research work should be original & it would be checked by a panel of experts. The thesis should contain detailed research & more practical calculations & examples.

  • M.Phil admission can be taken up with some universities even the aggregate marks in your post graduation level is below 55 percent but for the most of the universities the qualifying marks have been fixed 55 percent.
You have to look out the universities allowing you to appear for the entrance test to be conducted for the scrutiny of M.Phil candidature.
    M. Phil course is of maximum two years duration and the aspirant has to take a research work in the stream with which he has completed his post - graduation. The research work need not be the original one but it may be the mixture of the research already done by the scholars. The research - work taken up the aspirants is known as dissertation and upon the submission of the same, the panel of judges would confer M.Phil degree after examining the Research - work.
Ph. D degree is the advanced research work and calls for the originality in the thesis which is provided to the aspirants by the Research - guide and the the aspirant will proceed to the Research under the supervision of the guide. The aspirant would take enough pain with the consultation of numerous books to extract the related material and other journals. The work must be of high order so that it is ultimately approved by the panel of judges ultimately.
Ph.D degree is definitely superior to M.Phil degree because of originality of the research - work and this may take even five years to complete the same.
A scholar having obtained a Ph. D degree would not have to appear for NET test if he qualifies the post of lectureship in a constituent college.

  • The students having a second class Masters degree or equivalent degree are eligible to apply for M.Phil. or PhD programmes in the relevant subjects and are required to have an average of 55% marks or an average of 3.5 under the UGC point scale. In case of reserved categories the eligibility is 45% or grade point average of 2.5 only. Usually a Research Aptitude Test is also taken by the institutions to select and sort the candidates for research. Candidates having Post PG work experience are generally preferred for research work. There might be some institutions which might be relaxing the minimum marks eligibility for taking in M.Phil. or PhD programme but you have to see their reputation and the quality of the research guide available in such places.

Alternatively you can think of qualifying NET test and then try to apply lectureship job in English subject. Another longer route to success is that if you have interest in studies and can perform well academically then you can think of doing MA in some other subject where you can score much more and after that qualifying NET will enable you to apply for lectureship in universities or institutions in that particular subject.

It is not necessary that we remain in our restricted career path throughout our lives. No, the world is changing and people are switching from one area to totally unrelated areas. Believe me, many people have left their jobs for self employment like business and commercial activity. There are many areas which do not ask for academic excellence but they are the good source of earning. Transport, retail and service sectors are some of the very prospective areas coming up and those who have will to work in innovative ways can employ themselves in these fields. Another possibility is to join or start ones own tutorial or coaching centre. They are in great demand especially if the teachers are of good quality. So possibilities and options are many but what is required is a risk taking capacity and will to work hard and possess a focused and determined approach.

    Knowledge is power.
