  • GATE Score is a must for all the reputed institutes to in India to do M.Tech. For many government jobs also these days GATE Score is considered in addition to your B.Tech marks. So GATE is very important for you to do M.Tech in reputed universities. So I think you should concentrate and get qualify in GATE with good score.
There will be some sponsored seats in NITs and IITs. These seats will be given to the employees working in some reputed industries and they should be sponsored by the organisation. The candidate should have 2 years of experience in the relevant field.
IISc offers M Tech for the employees from Defence, DRDO, BARC, ISRO, KSRTC, BMTC, BDA, PWD and CPRI etc. The Institute may consider taking up to 50 students every year under this category for its course programmes.

  • You intend to proceed with your studies in IIT or NIT institutions and this is without attending the GATE but then the major concern would be the GATE itself as any of the candidates need to qualify this as the final stage in the admission process. We are not going beneath to the study preparations because this thread is not meant for this but than what could be the other options wherein this seem possible?

There are provisions of few reserved seats and you can try to target those which may get followed by a heavy and in case you are prepared for all this. In case you have decided onto this then I would request you to have some knowledge of the implications during the coming times which can move to different ways of your carrier.

Or else the best way to make your career is to get the admission to a comparatively good institute wherein the same wouldn't require of any intense competition, complete your studies and then spend some time as a fresher and at the same time work on your expertise to gain advantage on your field. After this hope so that the market would have enough options for you to choose from.

  • If you intend to pursue M.Tech in EE with power system as a specialization from the reputed institutions like IISc, IIT, NIT then you must clear GATE examination. You will have to get good rank in GATE examination then only you will be eligible to get admission in these reputed institute.
Even after qualifying GATE examination, there is final written test at these institute followed by an interview. There are separate score for these tests which will be included with the GATE score and then will be finalized for the admission.
There is another way of pursuing M.Tech from these reputed institution is to get job in top PSUs like DRDO, BARC etc. There are some reserve seats in M.Tech for these employees. For example, in BARC, the recruitment of scientific officer is via some special academic programs. If you qualify the written and interview then BARC will admit you in IIT-Delhi or other IIT for OCES (Orientation course for engineering graduates and science postgraduates) and DGFS (DAE graduates fellowship scheme).
In case if you not qualified in the above, then you can get admission in some private institutions and even from there also you can achieve your goals.
As per my personal experience the fact is, it does not matter you ate from IIT or NIT. If you have capabilities and depth knowledge in your core paper then you will definitely get reputed company to work. It is not like company like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft recruits the people only from IITs or NITs.
I would suggest you to set your goal and get the admission in any of the institution for M.Tech.
Wish you all the best for your brighter future.

Due to a large number of students completing their engineering graduation from the various colleges and universities it is natural that everywhere there will be rush for admissions in higher courses. • GATE is the essential condition making one eligible for the admission of M.Tech course. You can see a large number of aspirants fitting the percentile between 95 and 100 and hence it is rather a stiff condition to get admission in coveted institutes such as IIT, NIT, Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru etc.
The essential condition to qualify M.Tech in Electrical Engineering in the power - system is minimum 60 percent in the qualifying examination ie in B.E or B.Tech and then an excellent GATE score beyond 95. Some institutes such as IIT's, Vellore Institute of Technology etc would have their different sets in the selection of the aspirants. They introduce their own system to have written tests and ovals for screening the competent candidates apart from the impressive score of the GATE.
An alternative way to get admission in the M.Tech is to be a sponsored candidate from top PSU's such as BARC, DRDO, ONGC etc. and as result of strong recommendation of the employers and sanctioning of study - leave from the employer, the candidates can undertake the M.Tech course.
If a candidate has a true passion for learning higher technology in M.Tech, they can choose lesser reputed Engineering colleges such as BIT Meshra, RIT Jamshedpur, NIT Rourkela etc and can show their potentialities and for this to achieve, somewhat less score in the range of 90 to 93, would provide them the oppurtunities of undertaking M.Tech studies in Electrical - engineering.
