  • Regards Placement due to a year drop.

do you have a doubt regarding placements in case of a year drop? wondering whether it will create any issue even though all backlogs are cleared? Find advice from ISC experts on this page.

I have done B.Sc in computer science. I have a gap of 1 year before starting of my 2nd year of graduation to clear backlog of 1st year. Does this gap affect placements? Now I have cleared all my backlogs and have completed my graduation in April 2019.

  • You have cleared your backlogs before you complete your B.Sc. You obtained your degree this year only. This is good.
What is the percentage of marks you have obtained and what is the class you have obtained? You have not mentioned in your question.
If there are backlogs after you complete your final year you may be given compartmental pass only and no class will be given to you. Again this may depend on the university you have studied.
For B.Sc computers many organisations are giving jobs. But many of them will be asking a minimum of 60% marks with first class. MNCs and big companies may not offer jobs to the people who got less percentage. But there are many small companies and call centres where you can try for a job. Once you work for a few years and put up some experience you may get better jobs. Many big companies these days are outsourcing some jobs to some other small companies. You can try in such companies.
Alternatively, you can do BEd and then try as a teacher in schools.

  • You have cleared your backlog and completed the degree. Now it solely depends on what is your percentage you have achieved in this exam. You will get admission for higher education based on your percentage only as in most of the places the eligibility to apply for higher courses is set at 60%. However, for some of the courses they consider the students with 50% marks in their graduate degree also.

If your percentage is lower than that then you will have difficulty in getting admission in good institutions in the lucrative and reputed courses but do not take it as a setback in life as you have other brighter avenues open as described below.

Any student who has a degree with at least 50% marks can apply for doing B.Ed. after which he can try to get a teaching job. Teaching is a good profession and is a satisfying career option.

Another great opportunity for the degree holders with any percentage is the IBPS banking examination which is a gateway to excellent career. It is for clerk posts as well as PO (Probationary Officer) posts in the bank. The pattern for the exam for clerks as well as PO is almost similar. You can prepare for this exam which is held in stages ranging from preliminary to written and then the final interview. In preliminary exam you will have questions on English Language, Numerical Ability and Reasoning Ability. In mains you will have questions on Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, English Language, Data Analysis & Interpretation and General Economy & Banking Awareness. Somehow you missed a good score while attempting your degree course but you can now compensate it here if you do some hard work for preparing for this competitive exam. Please focus in the above subjects and take help from resource books or join a coaching centre.

Other prospective area is Indian Railways where there are many posts for which only a graduate degree is required and there are many for which only a 50% in class 10 is required. I will advise you to go through these details in the Railway recruitment site and you will be amazed to see your eligibility for so many positions there. Of course you will have to appear in the respective competitive exam followed by interview.

Another opportunity is India Postal Services in which for many posts only class 10 or 10+2 pass is required. This is also a good career option.

One thing I want to mention is that past is past and now you have to focus for your future and prepare hard for these examinations and if you concentrate in your studies you can definitely get through and make a good career.

    Knowledge is power.
