  • These medicines are used to treat the ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) problem. This is a neuro disorder in which the person has attention difficulty, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. Generally this disorder develops in the childhood stage and can persist longer. The person having this syndrome will have difficulty in school or college and will feel depressed or have inferiority complex. His self esteem will also be low. To analyse and diagnose his condition an expert doctor is required. Laboratory tests do not help in diagnosing this and only clinical diagnosis is made by the qualified doctor. The treatment can help to some extent but the condition is not cured.

The main constituent of these medicines is amphetamine. How exactly amphetamine works is still a matter under research though primary it is supposed to increase the effectiveness of some neurotransmitters in the body.

There is some small difference in their preparation. Actually amphetamine is of two types. One is d-amphetamine and other is l-amphetamine. The medicine dexedrine contains only d-amphetamine while adderall contains a mixture of both types of amphetamine. Then there are slow release and extended release versions which are prescribed by the doctor as per his experience. Extended release are not given to small children.

These two variations of medicines are almost similar in their functions and have serious side affects also. There is no fixed rule as which one is to be used by a patient. What doctors will do is monitor the patient and if he has problems with one of them then doctor may switch to other one. In that sense one of the two that is adderall or dexedrine will be prescribed.

    Note:
The information given above should not be used without consulting a qualified doctor.

  • These two medicines are used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. Both are classified as amphetamines. Both medicines are used to increase alertness and increased focus. They are Schedule II medications These medications should be used with a proper prescription from a physician and should be used under a qualified doctor. Dosage may vary from one to other and should not be used on our own.
Practically they work in a similar way.
