  • What are the best budget hotels in Coimbatore?

Planning to visit Coimbatore? Wondering which are the best budget hotels and placed to eat? Find suggestions for both on this Ask Expert page and plan you trip with a reasonable budget.

I am likely to visit Coimbatore in the second week of this month. I may stay there for three or four days. I want to know about good hotels at moderate rates to stay in Coimbatore. Members who are familiar with Coimbatore may suggest some hotels. My budget is about Rs 1000/ to Rs 1500/ day. I can search on the net but those who visited Coimbatore previously will be in a position to guide properly. I also want to know about good restaurants there.

  • Coimbatore would add your pleasure if you could manage some hotels with the moderate charges with no compromise in relation to comforts and foods apart from excellent Wi- if facility. Though the price may fluctuate depending upon the seasons but it would be a pleasant experience if you could choose the following hotels for your stay.
    1) Hotel Navratna - It makes sense to choose this Hotel through Goibibo in order to get best deal in respect of the concessional rate as less as 1400/-. They are providing morning breakfast having tangy tastes, meals and dinners being excellent with extra charges, friendly staffs, rooms being neat and clean, good Wi- if connectivity etc.
    2) Zip by spree - This would prove to be a good stay if the negotiation is made through Goibibo and in such situation the company st of stay per day would not exceed 1500. During the off - season, such as Rainy - reason, you may enjoy some concession. You would experience a pleasant stay with the provision of tasty complementary breakfast, rooms and toilets clean, friendly staffs, wi- if facility excellent. Foods served are equally good.
    3) Hotels Le Grand - it would be a nice choice provided you are ready to pay a little bit high price for the stay. The price can be negotiated in the range of 1700 - 1800 if negotiation is made through Goibibo. Here all the facilities during the stay are excellent and as such you will enjoy satisfaction.
    4) Legend Inn - This would prove to be an excellent hotel in all respects within the price margin of 1600 - 1700 if the negotiation is made with the Hotel - authorities. Here you will get complementary breakfast attached with the normal rent of the rooms. From dos and dinners are chargeable etc. Behaviour of the staffs is friendly and are responsive to your complaints and would try to resolve the same.
Though there are other hotels as well for the comfortable stay, but the price - band would be somewhat costly.

  • There is a very big range of hotels available in coimbatore. The budget hotels change their pricing depending upon the rush and time of the year. So, you must check their pricing beforehand in the internet sites like booking.com or goibibo.com or trivago.com etc. Many times there are special prices offered by these hotels and if you keep a watch on their prices you can have a very good bargain also. Most of the budget hotels are located in Gandhipuram area and if you want to go without booking then it makes sense to go there and finalise the hotel and then take the other family members and luggage from the Railway Station or any near by place. Anyway some of the good hotels in your budget range are as follows -

    1. Akil Residency, 50, 4th Extension, 100 Feet Road, Coimbatore - 641012. This is 1.4 km from Coimbatore North Railway Station. The price after all the discounts for a room for two persons will be approximately in the range of Rs 900 and above.

    2. Hotel Geo Grande, crosscut Road, Gandhipuram, Coimbatore - 641012. The prices for a room for two persons will start from Rs 1100 minimum. Situated about 1 km from Coimbatore North Railway Station.

    3. Siva Residency, 19A, Kavetti Naidu Layout, Karunanithi Nagar, Sowripalayam, Peelamedu, Coimbatore - 641028. This is near to airport about 4 km only. Prices for a double bedroom start from Rs 1500.

    4. Capital Vinayak Inn, 60, Geetha Hall Road, Opp. Railway Station, Coimbatore - 641018. This is very near to coimbatore Railway Station. Prices for a double bed room start from Rs 1400.

Some of the affordable middle class but good restaurants are Shree Anandhaas (Laxmi Mills area), Hangout (Saibaba colony), RHR Restaurant (Ramanathapuram), Sree Annapoorna Sree Gowrishankar (Race Course) etc.

    Knowledge is power.

  • In Coimbatore, you can have a wide choice of hotels within your specified budget.

If you are going to travel alone, then there are lots of hotels coming within and lesser than your specified budget. The area around Crosscut Road and Gandhipuram bus stand area has several hotels. That area is also having many restaurants. The transport facilities and even tourist spots also can be approached from there. Even if it is a business or professional visit that area has many choices.

From my experience, I can suggest Hotel Sreelakshmi, Lakshmi Complex in Crosscut Road. That was a prime hotel once. But still, it has its class though you may not see it as very modern. The rooms are spacious, the hospitality is good. I will recommend it to a family. Single traveler can also stay there n the single occupancy tariff.

When I checked the Tariff just now, I find that the tariff is suitable for your budget.
But it has a lot of advantages like safety, facilities including a good restaurant, shopping facilities, transport facilities, etc. At the same time inside it is peaceful and classic.

You can search the net for budget hotels near Railways station, Gabdhipuram, Crosscut Road, etc. You can directly contact the hotels and get full details from them. I used to do that way only. I used to check the details from a couple of shortlisted hotels and then decide considering distance, facility, safety, and Tariff.

  • Request you to update the area(s) you would be visiting, so suggestions can be made accordingly. Are you looking for something near the airport or railway station or someplace central?

  • There are plenty of such good hotels near the Railway Station. The best among them is Sri Krishna Vilas. For an ordinary double non AC room, it is just Rs.600 to Rs.700. Please get their phone number and directly dial their number. They take bookings over the phone. It is truly value for money hotel. Please do note that the contact phone number is 08786006937. The address is 43,Old post office Road, New Collector Office, Gopalapuram, Coimbatore., Tamil Nadu. You will get further information if you just go to Google and type Sri Krishna Vilas, Coimbatore. Since the climate is superb in August, you really do not need any AC room. It is a beautiful city, and it is one of the cleanest in entire South India.

Please do note that this is a very good Palghat Iyer hotel. It is a typical Brahmin hotel and it is maintained very neat. The biggest advantage of booking over the phone is that breakfast is free. They give you limited breakfast but this will alone, cost you Rs. 100/-. if you have it in the same hotel or outside. Now, the location. When you land from the Chennai side, it is always on the right. That is on the main site of the beautiful Railway Junction. That is, ahead of platform number one. There should be an escalator now. It was being installed sometime back. Just take this escalator, and go down. Just continue to walk outside the Junction and take a turn to the left. J

You need not ask anyone. You will notice the Collectorate. Just walk a little ahead. This hotel Krishna Vilas is just 25 meters from the Collectorate. If you have some luggage, engage an auto guy. Speak in English. They will think you are highly educated and respond very well. Most auto fellows know some Hindi but will take you for a ride, if you speak in that language.

Now, another superb alternative, that will suit your budget. It is called Geetha Hall. The location? Just opposite the Coimbatore Railway junction, you will find a road. It is called Geetha Hall Road. The reason is that you will get very good South Indian breakfast and lunch at this hotel. For stay, it is a very good place to stay and they charge you something like Rs. 800 for a very good room. They have recently renovated their rooms and it is very good for the middle class. Please do not stay anywhere else.

Now, I will give you the details of the restaurants. Please do note that the city is superbly connected by buses. In the morning, just ask anyone and get into any bus that goes toward the Avanashi Raod and get down at Kovai Medical Center stop. Almost everyone speaks English and they are very hospitable. You can please go there and when you just cross the road, you will find a hotel called Anadhas. It is superb for breakfast. It has superb variety and at 8M, you can see the crowds just pouring in. Now, for lunch, please do have it in the same Krishna Vilas. You can even skip breakfast and go for breakfast to Anandas, as it is simply world-class Yes, it is a bit costly but it will make you feel great. If you want a good vegetarian change, you can also try Geetha Hall, and another restaurant called Annapoorna and Gowrishankar which is too good. There are some 16 branches of this chain all over Coimbatore city. Now, the nearest to the Railway station is walkable. You can easily walk it down. Anyone will show you.

The Adayar Ananda Bhaven is also superb. It is bang opposite to the Junction. Apart from this, if you want to try out something different, you can also try the Lakshmi Shankar Mess, just opposite to the prestigious Ganga Hospital. Please do not take any auto. Just see for the stop for bus number 11. This bus starts from the Railway Junction only. Please ask for Ganga Hospital stop. Once you get down, cross the road and ask anyone for this hotel.

They charge you just around Rs. 90 but serve you a superb organic food meal. Their tiffin items are also superb.

Please do note that the hotels at other places are very costly. You can take a bus and go towards what is called Gandhipuram. There are hundreds of buses to Gandhipuram. This is the center of the city. Go to cross-cut Road. This is a fabulous shopping paradise. If you have some free time, get into bus number 7 from Gandhipuram and go towards a lovely locality called DB Road, R.S. Puram. just walk along this lovely road, which has so many shopping places. Textile goods are available aplenty, but a bit costly.

Coimbatore is the Bangalore of Tamil Nadu. It is superb for anyone. Please do explore only the two hotels I have mentioned. I go there so often. Mostly I stay with relatives. But I have stayed in these two hotels. They are simply too good. The people are very kind and nice. Please do note that you have direct buses to the airport from the Railway Station. It is very easy to go to any part of the city from the Railway Station. The phone number of Geetha Hall is 0422 -2300049. It is bang opposite to the Coimbatore city Railway Junction.
