  • Many PSUs recruit qualified persons for its positions based on the GATE score. The candidate has to apply in the prescribed performa available in the respective site of the company or its advertisement in the media. The applications are taken for many streams like Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and many more. One has to look up to the advertisement floated by the particular company in this regard. The candidates are shortlisted by the respective PSU based on their GATE score and then they are asked to participate in group discussions and interview.

There are many PSUs which are doing it regularly and it is expected that during 2020 also they will be conducting it. Some of these prospective PSUs which are expected to go for this mode of recruitment in 2020 are - GAIL, IOCL, NTPC, NPCIL, ONGC, PGCIL, POSOCO, WBSEDCL etc.

There ares some PSUs which have done this type of recruitment earlier but we are not sure whether they will be doing it in 2020 so we have to keep a watch in the print as well as online media for that information. These PSUs are - AAI, Air India, BARC, BBNL, BHEL, BMRCL, BPCL, BSNL, BSPHCL, CEL, CMRL, DDA, DMRC, DRDO, ECIL, EIL, GSECL, HAL, HPCL, HPU, IRCON, KRIBHCO, MDL, MECL, MGL, MPIDC, MPMKVVL, MPPGCL, MRPL, MRVC Ltd, NALCO, NBCC, NFL, NHAI, NHPC etc.

    Knowledge is power.

  • All PSU conduct the examination of the Management- trainee comprising two portions one being the written test and the other one is the oral test. They would make a merit list on the basis of your performance of both the test prior to the medical test essential prior to your final selection. They would recruit aspirants of the different streams such as Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, Metallurgical etc with the number of vacancies of each stream.
In your stream, the minimum eligibility criteria for applying the post is to secure a minimum 65 % in all the semesters and even if the final result has not been released, you may apply for this post assuming that your aggregate would not fall below that percentage. The other criteria is your age should not exceed beyond 25 except for SC/ST and Backward classes for whom there is a separate relaxation.
To be inducted in PSU, you have to go through these formalities. In case, you get a chance of such advertisement, you must avail the same in order to have a decent job.
To clear the GATE is another part. The main mission behind the clearance of this test with an impressive percentile is to secure a seat for M.Tech course but apart from this, you will get some incentive from PSU's with two additional increments in your basic for your clearance of GATE.
However, it does not mean you should wait until the results of GATE has been finalised. If you mention the GATE status in your application- form being filled up for PSU, that would be enough. Clear the PSU test with your meticulous labour and once you clear this, intimate the personnel department regarding your addition of GATE. They would fix your basic as per the existing norm for GATE holders.
So you should not for the finalisation of the GATE result, apply immediately for the post of Management - trainee once it appears.

  • GATE score may be taken as a minimum eleigibility by some major PSU companies for recruiting fresh employees./trainees.
The recruitment/employment announcement will have the detailed conditions in them. The GATEscore will be only one of the minimumparametersto apply. The written test, interview etc will be conducted as per theterms of announcement/advertisement.
As of now you just focus on GATE exam & your academic exam. The application for employment can be focused lateron. In case you come to see any advertisement calling for application from the last semester students you may apply if you find thatsuitable.

So go ahead, study well for your academic exam as well as GATE exam and score good grades. If any suitablevacancy/job announcement comes i the meantime, read the eligibility conditions and apply if suitable.

    Best Wishes.

  • It is good that you have already filled GATE Examination form and your exam will be conducted in month of February 2020. Most probably result will declare in the month of March.

By the time you need to apply all PSUs separately (in which you are interested and according to your stream). Check websites of PSUs for recruitment notifications. They might have started or will be about to start recruiting process.
Some of the PSUs start their process before GATE Exam (December, January) e.g. IOCL, HPCL etc. and some of them will be starting their recruitment process after GATE exam i.e. in the month of April and May like ONGC.

As you have already applied for GATE exam and will be appearing in the exam in February, PSUs will allow you to take part in the recruitment process.
They may ask you to link your PSU application number with registered GATE application number, so that your GATE score will be verified as soon as GATE result will get declared.
After declaration of result you can intimate PSU official about your result and can avail benefits.
However, most of the PSUs want latest GATE score. But some of them requires only valid Gate score (validity 3 years).

When GATE result will be declared PSUs will be publishing list of shortlisted candidate on their website and IITs website. After declaration of GATE result PSUs send call letters to short listed candidates. Short listed candidates will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview. However, some PSUs do not conduct GD like ONGC, NLC, HAL, and BARC.
Some of the PSUs like NHAI, BSNL and AAI will recruit candidates only on the basis of GATE score.

After Group Discussion and Personal Interview, PSUs will publish list of selected candidates and some time wait-listed candidates also. They inform to selected candidates by email also.

However, there are some PSUs which conduct their own exam also like BARC, ISRO, DRDO, BEL, EIL, SAIL, VIZAG, and CIL. You can apply there also as per your stream and choice. They conduct written test and personal interview.

    Good luck

  • The GATE examination is useful in many ways. The score obtained in this test will be useful to you for doing your PG that is M.Tech. Some PSUs will recruit the candidates based on their GATE score. Similarly, some defence establishments also considering filling their vacancies. So it is very good that you have already applied for GATE and complete that with a good score.

The recruiting procedure of PSUs will be generally shortlisting the names of the candidates based on their score. the GATE. Then they will conduct some group discussions and then interview. So your GATE score will be useful to you to get shortlisted.

Some PSUs will have their own method of conducting the examination and the selection will be completly on the basis of your performance in the selection procedure. But once you are selected you may get some additional increments on the scale.

Defence Organisations will also follow the procedure of shortlisting the candidates based on their GATE score. Then there will be a technical interview and then final interview.

You be in the lookout for the advertisements and apply for the position. Mention in the application that you are appearing for the GATE next year. By the time they complete the process and shortlist the candidates it will take a lot of time and by that time you can complete your GATE and submit the marks separately at that time.

You can go through the websites of these PSUs, DRDO lab s and defence establishments and see there are any vacancies advertised and you can apply for that. In that advertisement, they will mention that the final year students can also apply and they should submit their final result by so and so date. If that date suits, you can apply.

I wish you all the best.

  • Some PSUs shortlist the candidates based on the GATE result and then call them for interview or interview plus group discussions. But these PSUs are not consistent in this as they may skip this mode in a particular year. Some others will be doing it occasionally so it is not a regular thing. Moreover the GATE cutoff is also high. So, it is advised to prepare for the specific exam advertised by the PSU for appointment to its executive positions. Sometimes they recruit a large number of persons the main reason for that is because of large number of employees retiring every year. So one should keep a watch on the advertisements in the newspaper or media and take advantage of this rage scale recruitment.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.
