  • The recruitments to the Govt or public sector banks are done through the IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) exam where the upper age eligibility criterion is 30 years so I am afraid that would not be a channel for you to enter in these banks. At the same time there are private banks where you can apply based on your experience and qualification. Time to time they also advertise their vacancies and you can directly also give your resume for consideration based on your financial expertise. Please note that private banks would be looking for your skills and specialisations rather than your academic qualifications.

There are some courses which can be done in a period of 1 to 2 years and that will give you a good leverage to apply in private banks. Many institutions conduct these courses with slightly different names but the content is to prepare the people for banking services. You can find out some reputed institute before joining one of these courses. Some of these courses are -

    1. Post Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance.
    2. Diploma in Banking and Capital Markets.
    3. Certificate course in Banking and Finance.
    4. Diploma in risk analysis and insurance.

As you have already done MBA in finance then you have to take care in not repeating a course which you have already learned during MBA. It should be an additional skill and accordingly you have to decide to acquire it.

    Knowledge is power.

  • The age limit for bank jobs including officers and clerks is 3o years. There may be some relaxation for reserved categories. But it will be not up to 42 years. So I feel it is not possible for a person with 42 years to get admission into a bank job at the junior level. But there may be a chance for lateral entry. Very rarely they may be advertising for these positions. Please be on the lookout and apply and try your luck. But the chances are remote.

Private banks may be taking aged people also for the positions in the banks. Your experience may also be taken into consideration for a position in their banks. Please be watching for their advertisement. Even you can forward your resume to the banks asking them to consider you for any position.

There are some good courses which are good for getting a bank job.

    1. PGDM Banking and Finance (NIBM): This is a full-time course for 2 years and NIBM PUNE will be offering this course. It will enhance your chances to get selected for a bank job in private banks.

2.PGP in Investment Banking and Capital Markets: This is a one year course. Full time and Part-time courses are available. BSE institute will be conducting this course.

    3. The Post Graduate Program in Banking & Finance (PGPBF): This is also the one-year full time/ part-time course offered by BSE Institute. A very good course for banking jobs.

    4. Actuarial Science: This is a diploma course of 2 years duration. This course is offered by the Institute of Actuaries in India. This is a course offered through distance mode.

You can select any one of the above which suits you in a better way and will help you to attain a new skill and that will help you in getting a job in the private banking sector.

  • In banking sector one can apply either in private banks or government banks. Recruitment in banks are done mainly in two categories

But in both these category maximum age limit is 30 year. Age relaxation for candidates belonging to SC/ST category is maximum 5 years. So, it is to say that you can not apply in both these categories in private sector bank or public sector banks now.

But some time banks including State Bank of India and Punjab National Banks advertise Posts of Specialist. For these posts maximum age limit varies upto 45 or 50 years or sometimes 55 years also.

  • Since you have already crossed the limit of the eligibility criteria for the Banking Examination for both the clerical category and Probationy Officers category because the maximum age limit for both the posts is thirty year.
However, you should not be disappointed on that ground. There is a provision of intake of executives in both private and public sectors banks having sufficient experience in the area of finance, sales and relation banking and economics. You will have to look out for the advertisements displayed by the banks time to time appearing in the leading news papers. Other means is to approach Naukari. Com or a similar agency with your resume indicating your qualification and your length of experience so as to get a suitable assignment. In such cases, you can avail of the oppurtunities till you attend fifty years age.
In order to enhance your job potential, you may undertake some diploma course in finance and banking offered by Symbosis consisting of two years tenure. Even you may contact IGNOU for some diploma courses such as Insurance and Risk Management for your better employability in the banking areas. The distance courses run by these institutes would not hamper your current job activities and at the same time, such diplomas would enrich your knowledge in such domains.

  • Recently I have seen a WhatsApp message that a teacher taking classes in her 92 years. From this it is clear that anything is possible in any level of age. Provided there should be a strong support or back up for this.
To emphasise this a cinema -Vasool raja MBBS/Munnabjai MBBS have come.
If any of your relatives in banking service, you can get a job in private banks. In the regular way it is very difficult to get a bank job in this age.

  • With your financial background you can try for the private banks. There are many private banks which are not present in big way but they have their branches only in a particular area. They may not pay a very good salary but they also require experienced people for their work. So one can try there also on one to one basis by meeting their management and giving ones bio data there.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

  • As you have completed MBA in finance and with your experience of 8 years, it is possible for you to get job in private sector with little difficulty as you are 42 years old because private sector banks will see age factor also to recruit the candidate for any role starting from Teller role. So, submit your resume in all private sector banks websites and if there is any vacancy matching your profile they will call you for personal interview.
And age limit to apply for government sector banks is 21-28 years for clerks and 21-30 years for probationary officer posts and age relaxation is 3 years for BC & 5 years for SC and ST candidates & 10 years for PH candidates.
So, it is almost impossible for you to get into government sector banks but you have chance to enter in private sector banking industry.

  • Though you can try for a bank job at this age, what I feel that the competition is fierce and many youths with well qualified and even Gate scores are attempting to grab the bank jobs, in that context getting a job at the age of 42 is something dreaming big. However, nothing wrong to try all sorts of jobs openings including the bank jobs provided you have the well-prespared motto to take on the competition among the mass for this job. Please refer to employment news often and also the advertisements released by the banks now and then for the vacancies and try your luck every time. But keep in mind that the getting on is not that easy.
