My SSC profile in OBC category.
Can I fill post in UR category?
Because there is no vacancy in particular post in OBC.
There is only one vacancy in UR category in that post.

I can't change my category because it is one time registration. Can I get advice?

  • All eligible candidates can apply for unreserved posts. You need not change your category. The rule says if a person who is in a reserved category gets a seat or job in an unreserved category, the seats or jobs available after in reserved category will be given to the next best-reserved category student/ applicant.

A person without any reservation has to apply only for Unreserved posts/ seats. But a person having reservations can apply for both reserved category and unreserved category seat/ job. You are an OBC. But there are no posts for OBC. But there is a job which is unreserved. That means that the job is available to all. You can apply without any hesitation and if you are found to be the best, you may get that job.

  • You should not hesitate in applying for such a vacancy. Here the motive of displaying such an advertisement has to be understood in the real perspective.
Staff Selection Commission is interested to fill up the vacancy from the unreserved category but you being a candidate from OBC, are confused about your next step.
You can apply against the unreserved category but under that case, you are not entitled to get the existing concessions being enjoyed by OBC's.
You need to show your true potential during the interview at the different stages and if your performance is exceptional, you are sure to grab the job under the quota of unreserved category.
In no way, your SSC profile with OBC category is to affect your candidature.

  • A reserved category person can very well apply for a post advertised under the unreserved category. There is absolutely no issue regarding that. You can always apply for such posts in Staff Selection Commission or anywhere else. One thing which you have to keep in mind is that you are an OBC candidate and there is no OBC post in that advertisement so you naturally do not get this benefit in this particular case. Now, when you apply against the unreserved category post then remember that there would be so many general category candidates who would be applying for this single post. It is imperative that you will have to compete with all of them without any special concession or exemption. So, you know your capacity and capability well based on your educational credentials and depending on that you have to take a conscious decision to apply for this particular post under the unreserved category. All the best.
