  • After the inception of GST in Indian Tax system everything has been brought under this unified tax mechanism and it makes sense to register one's business under it for smooth flow of sales and tax activities. One can register for GST in the online portal and process is straight forward and if someone wants help then consultants and agents are also available to do this for a fee.

You have to keep the following information and documents ready for uploading in the system -
    1. Photograph(s).
    2. Business address proof and Incorporation Certificate or the business registration proof.
    3. Bank details such as account number, bank name, bank branch, IFSC code, copy of account statement, and one cancelled cheque.
    4. Authorisation form.
    5. PAN card.
    6. Aadhaar card.
    7. Digital Signature.
    8. Director's or Promoter's ID proof, address proof, and photograph.
    9. Letter of Authorisation or Board Resolution from Authorised Signatory.

You might be aware that you have to login in the GST portal (https://www.gst.gov.in/) and click on the 'Register Now' link which can be found under the 'Taxpayers' tab. Now go to 'New Registration' and select respective state and district, enter the name of the business, enter the PAN number of the business, enter the email ID and mobile number etc. Now you will get OTP in your mobile and email and enter it. You will be given a Temporary Reference Number (TRN) on the screen. Note it. Now come out of the portal and again visit it and select 'Register' under the 'Taxpayers' menu. Select 'Temporary Reference Number (TRN)', enter it and proceed ahead. Again you will get OTP in your mobile and email and enter that. Now you would see the status of your application and click the edit icon and it would take you to 10 sections and one by one you go through them and upload the documents asked therein.

Now go to Verification page and click on the declaration box. At this point you can submit the application using Electronic Verification Code (EVC) which will be sent by the system to the mobile number. You can choose to register through e-Sign method also. In that case an OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar card. Once completed you would get an application reference number (ARN) in the mobile and email. Use this number to check the status of your application.

    Knowledge is power.

  • thank you for the update.

  • GST number and registration can be done online these days. But as per the rules, no registration is required until your turnover reaches rs.20.00.000/- per annum. once you reach that turnover you have to go for the registration, GST will have three components 1. CGST that is centre goods and service tax. This will go to the Central government.
    2. SGST. State goods and service tax. This will go to the State government. 3. IGST. Integrated Goods and service tax. It will be applicable when the transaction includes two states. From one State to the other state.
If we want to register, you can do it online and you require the following documents.
