  • The minimum qualification required is 10+2 to appear for CA examination.
But a commerce degree is recommended before appearing for CA examination.
The criteria for CA is different from one country to another country. First, you have to decide on the country where you want to go to your CA. But ACCA is an agency which is having a common course for CAs all over the world. The details are as follows.
    1. ACCA is having more than 147,000 members across the world. There are about 424,000 students in 170 different countries.
    2. ACCA certification is recognised all over the world.
    3. There will be an examination. Some practical experience is also required and there will be an online ethics examination also.
    4. There will be 14 papers and the candidate has to pass in all the papers. 5. A minimum of three years' experience is mandatory.
The criteria for a Chartered Accountant
    1. The candidate should be a graduate in a two-year chartered accountant program overseas after receiving a bachelor's degree
    2. A licence and the procedure depending on the country

  • There are many countries where one can pursue CA program but most of them require a two years degree in Chartered Accontant program to be undertaken in that country. However if one does CA under affiliation with ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) which is accepted worldwide in 170 countries then one can complete this course anywhere before applying for practicing CA in other countries. I think that ACCA route would be a better option in this career making pursuit. Option of doing it from any foreign university is always open for the students.

For applying for ACCA approved course, one has to be preferably a commerce graduate though minimum qualification prescribed is only 10+2. ACCA exam is a long modular course where the students have to qualify in 14 papers in total encompassing written exams, practical experience and online ethics program associated with this ambitious course. Generally the qualifying certificate would be given only after the candidate acquire an experience of 3 years in this area may be parallel to the CA course as many students prefer that way only.

As regards the question of getting a CA degree through a foreign university one has to enrol for the course there and then pursue CA which would of course be under the gambit of ACCA only. The only advantage is that the chances for getting a job overseas would increase in such cases. One must remember that the licensing procedures for practicing as a CA in foreign companies differ from one to another and that has to be separately undertaken by the students. Of course other things like English language efficiency, working Visa etc would also be required as usual.

In India we have CPT, CA Intermediate / IPCC (Integrated Professional Competence Course), CA Articleship, and finally CA final in order to complete the CA chain. The foreign institution would also have same sequence but the nomenclature would change from university to university and that is no issue as you would be going through a precise parallel way only while pursuing your CA from foreign universities.

Some of the universities where one can apply if one wants a foreign university association in CA qualification are -

    1. American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, USA.
    2. Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, UK.
    3. Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, Canada.
    4. Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, UK.
    5. Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland, Ireland.
    6. Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia, Australia.
    7. Edith Cowan University, Australia.
    8. Bangor University, UK.
    9. Lincoln University, New Zealand.

    Knowledge is power.

  • The Charted Accountant is the prestigious qualification opening the way for the tremendous scope of this profession. There is huge demand of CA 's in both India and abroad. They are the ones having their specialised skills and can guide any firm or company regarding the financial health of the related firm/ company. These specialists can offer valuable guidance in terms of finance.
However, there exists some difference between the CA qualification provided in India and the ones provided in abroad known as ACCA ( Association of Charted Certified Accountant).
In India, we have the following steps to have this certification-
    1) On the basis of 10+2 qualification, candidates are eligible to go ahead for the foundation course of CA.
    2) You would be required to clear your B.Com degree prior to appearing for the CA test, though this is not essential to have this formality.
    3) In order to have your acceptance as a CA internationally, you will have to pass out the course ACCA also known as Association of Charted Certified Accountant.
To be successful in ACCA examination, you will have to qualify the three components containing examination, practical experience and on lines ethics modules. Altogether there are 14 papers, but if you have valid verification of CA earned from India, you will be exempted from the 9 papers of the ACCA system. Thus you need to clear the remaining 5 papers so as to have this international certification.
