  • Mass - communication is a vast field covering Print and TV Journalism, Radio and Advertising, Public Relations and other social events. Hence in order make edge in this field, the aspirants would do well with a selection of an university where the doctorate degree has got wide acceptance in the Journlism - circle.
Amity University is a private University set up in the year 2005 initially in Noida and later it has been expanded in Gwaliar, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Kolkata and even in Ranchi situated in Jharkhand for the benifits of the interested aspirants. In respect of ranking it is ranked 14 th in India in terms of its ranking of the Indian university. The infrastructure is fine in terms of spacious rooms, uninterrupted supply of electricity with the provision of AC in each room. The libraries contain abundant books for all the courses introduced by this university.
It has the approval of AICTE for the technical courses and has the UGC affiliation.apart from accreditation of NAAC with A+ ranking and these are the favourable points while opting for your study in this University.
But before you choose this university for your studies in Mass Communication, the following points not going in favour of this university should also be considered which may hamper your interest and passion for your course. These are as follows -
    1) The fee structure of most of the courses are beyond the reach of common students. It may run into one lakh each year covering a minimum of three year programme and in case, you don't get a guide motivating you in the subject assigned to you or in case of any confusion, it would be the greatest setback on your part.
    2) In order to avoid such a situation, talk to the ex students regarding the competent and the knowledgeable guides helping you in your ongoing projects.
    3) You will be expected to be involved in some activities which may ruin your progress in your related project, such as your familiarity with some foreign language like German, Russian, French etc in course of your Research.
    4) Apart from Noida Campus, other Campuses of this University may be looked into to facilitate your research in view of getting a competent guide and research may be taken up accordingly.
    5) Amity University lacks competent guides to promote your research appetite. Delhi University, JNU, Mumbai University etc would prove to better for continuation of Research in Mass Communication.
There are other universities where you can go ahead for your better guidance and the fee - structure would not pinch you to that extent. You may try any one of these -
    1) Delhi University
    2) Jawahar Lal Nehru University
    3) Mumbai University
    4) Benaras Hindu University
    5) Baroda University
    6) Kolkata University
    7) Sharada University etc.
    8) Lucknow University.

  • Mass communication and journalism has evolved today in a matured area and the people having good experience and skills of expression and presentation are required by media houses and other companies engaged in this area. There are many Govt positions also open for the people qualified in this niche area. Once you go for PhD that makes you as a specialist in some of the areas of this stream and you can be benefited with the learnings that you would have accumulated during your research work.

After doing research in mass communication and journalism there are scopes in the positions like Expert Columnist, Senior Journalist, News Analyst, Public Relation Officer, Production Manager, Senior Reporter, Senior positions in TV/Radio media agencies, Special Correspondent, Writer/Proof Reader/Floor Manager etc. One can even start one's own media consulting and advising works.

As regards the Amity University, it is a reputed and approved university under the present regulatory framework and one should not have any hitch in doing ones PhD from there. Another point worth noting is that when there are many good universities to choose from then it hardly matters which one you are joining. What matters much is a good guide who can guide you for a valuable research and not the routine types. So what I would suggest is get some information about the mentors there and then try to get your work under him or give a first choice like that. When you do a research work then a good original work in the topic matters much and that brings the person on the radar of some good organisations also who take a note of the good work done by some meritorious and hard working students and give them some prestigious projects in their hand. So, one has to do the research not for degree but for getting the knowledge about the topic in details for which of course one will have to go through the whole subject in a much detailed way.

    Knowledge is power.
