  • Wisdom tooth tilted and causing issues

Suffering from toothache especially in wisdom teeth? Get remedies and free online consultation for oral care from this page.

My bottom wisdom teeth or third molar teeth are tilted as they did not grown fully straight and have caused a gap in between the second molar teeth. I had to get one third molar teeth extracted due to same and had to go for Root Canal Treatment (RCT) of the second molar. This happened around 3 years back, now the third molar on my left side has started causing the same issue.

I had consulted the dentist at that time of extraction of right 3rd molar, but he suggested to leave it as it is, as the roots of the teeth are deep and a little curved so they may break during extraction. But now because of the gap in between the third molar and second molar, food particles used to get stuck and no matter how much precaution I take it has slowly degraded and broke a little causing a bigger gap in between 2 molar teeths.

Now I suspect that the roots of the 3rd molar is exposed as I get a very bad smell out of it and also a little bit of painful sensation sometimes. I had consulted another dentist again over telephone and he prescribed a painkiller and an antibiotic, but the clinics are not opening as of now due to Covid 19, so he cannot inspect me in physical.

To avoid further damage I have stuffed the gap with cotton and try to avoid chewing from that end. I will go to the dentist once the clinics open up but as of now what should I do to prevent further damage and also what to do regarding extraction as my previous dentist advised against it. As I now suspect that the roots of 3rd molar is exposed, I will have to get it extracted but I am in dilemma.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

By the way, the last treatment in a dental problem is to be taken by the dentist itself, but there are some home remedies that will help reduce your pain.
Unless you are going to the dentist then these remedies will help you, , you can try which you find comfortable -

Crush garlic buds and make a paste. Now apply this paste on the painful part of the wisdom tooth. Also, you can press and hold a bud of garlic for some time on the painful part of the wisdom tooth. Do this remedy three to four times a day until you get relief from pain. It can help you in relieving pain.

You must have heard about the clove remedy for toothache. Actually, cloves have analgesic properties, which can help reduce pain. Due to this quality, it can also prove to be beneficial in untimely molar pain.

Mix peppermint essential oil and coconut oil in equal amounts. Apply this mixture on the affected teeth and surrounding gums with your finger, massage gently for 4 to 5 minutes, if the pain is more, there is no need to massage, just apply it lightly.

Make a paste by mixing one teaspoon of turmeric in a little water. Now apply this paste on the pain-affected area after brushing. Leave it for about half an hour and then rinse it with lukewarm water. If you do not want to apply like this, then you can use half a teaspoon of turmeric in a glass of water as a mouth wash.

In the case of throat pain or toothache, it is often advisable to rinse with salt in warm water. You can also take this remedy to reduce the pain of a wisdom molar, which can prevent infection in a wisdom molar. Along with this it also has antiseptic properties, which can reduce toothache caused by infection.

Put one spoon of coconut oil in your mouth and rotate it for 5 to 10 minutes. Then spit it out and rinse it with lukewarm water. You can do this process before brushing in the morning.

Asafoetida also prevents pain and infection, for many years it has been used not only as a spice but also as a medicine. Whether it is a cold or a cold, it is one of the best home remedies.

Chewing raw onion is one of the home remedies for toothache. The antimicrobial and antiseptic properties of onions can help relieve toothache by eliminating oral bacteria. Also, you can press and hold the onion bud for some time in the affected area.

Take an ice pack and place it on the cheek where there is a wisdom tooth. By applying ice, the pain part becomes numb for a while, due to which the pain is not felt. This may be relaxing for a while, but then the pain may begin

  • I faced similar problem four years back and at that time I consulted the dentist. He suggested for removal and I got them removed and he cleaned all the remaining teeth. Now there is no problem and no foul smell also.
So the best course of action is to get them removed only. But these days dental hospitals are closed and hence it is difficult to get them removed. Already you have contacted a dentist and he suggested some medicines. You can use them and see.
The following are some methods to prevent further damage.
    1. Take some warm water and mix some salt in that and wash your mouth with this solution. You can do it many times a day. This will help you to some extent.
    2. Some mouthwashes are antibacterial. You can use this also once or twice a day. This will also help in reducing the problem.
    3. If the pain is more you can use an ice pack. You can keep this ice pack on your cheek in the place where you have pain. You can keep this ice pack for 20 to 25 minutes. You can repeat 3 or 4 times a day.
    4. Clove oil is useful. You dilute clove oil with food-grade coconut oil and then take some cotton and dip in this oil and keep that cotton on the teeth where the pain is there.
    5. You can use peppermint oil also.
    6. Onion pieces can be chewed on the area where you have a problem.

  • Toothache really becomes unmanageable sometimes due to the presence of a gap where the food particles may stuck up allowing the same for the further degeneration. In your case, the specific reason for the toothache may be because of the other reason such as excess inflammation of the region due to frictions of molars or other underlining causes which you cannot pinpoint without the consultation of the dentist.
However, there are ways to redress your pain by taking up a few home remedies without producing any side effects. You may try the following tips -
    1) You may keep your head elevated keeping the rest part of the body on rest in rest in case you are feeling the bouts of pain. This posture will eliminate the excess flow of blood in your molar region and hence your pain will reduce considerably.
    2) You may use Wheatgrass juice as a mouthwash. Use this juice and keep the same inside your mouth for at least ten minutes and then it is to dumped. Repeat the same twice a day for sometime till your pain is under control. The pain relieving property of this juice is due to the presence of chlorophyll taking care of the swelling in the affected region.
    3) Avoid acidic, cold or hard foods such as bread since these foods can aggravate the pain and as such these foods are to be avoided in such a situation.
    4) Clove oil if applied on the root of the affected teeth will alleviate your pain due to its antibacterial property.
    5) You may use over the counter pain medications such as Ibuprophen, Tylenol, Aspirin etc to arrest your pain if the other remedies are not helpful. They have the excellent pain relieving mechanism.
    6) Sensodyne Rapid Relief gum is to be applied on the sensitive region for at least ten minutes and this would work in eliminating your pain.
    7) Take a Guava Leaf and cleaning it thoroughly with water, keep it inside the mouth and chew it properly and allow the juice to remain inside the mouth for at least fifteen minutes. Repeat the operation twice a day till you get the complete relief. Positive results may be seen within a fortnight.
