  • Ma/MSc Psychology for Non-psychology graduate in Calcutta University

Looking for details about Ma/MSc Psychology for Non-psychology graduates in Calcutta University? Get help from our education experts from this page.

I am a B.Tech student of MAKAUT but I want to pursue MA/MSc Psychology. I want to know if I am eligible to join Calcutta University for my masters. Does CU necessarily require a BA/BSc in psychology to be eligible for this course? I checked the official website but all I found in the eligibility criteria is that a BSc or equivalent is required, so does this equivalent include B.Tech? I also read about an entrance exam for non CU students, so if I am eligible for this then could you please tell me a little more about this entrance exam, like when is it held, and, what are the subjects on which the exam is held?
If CU does not accept non psyche students then could you please tell me if WBSU would be a possible choice for me? Or should I look into PG Diploma in Psychology? I would like to add that I don't know anything about PGD in Psychology, it just came up in related searches so I just want to know if it's like an alternative to MA/MSc Psychology, or its a post PG course? Please help me out with this.

    2) You will have to clear the entrance test designed to screen the candidates.
    3) There will a session of counselling with the expert members testing your aptitude and passion.
In your case, you are a B.Tech and hence you are at par with the other graduates and hence on this point, you will not be deprived of the opportunity provided you clear the points 2 and 3 indicated above.
Entrance test carries negative markings and hence you need be cautious while attempting the questions followed by the councelling session where you need to satisfy the members.

  • Kolkata University has two courses in Psychology in MA. First is Applied Psychology for which one has to have Psychology in graduation. Other is Psychology for which anyone who is a graduate in any discipline can apply. For the first one there is an entrance test but the second is simply based on the merit of the graduation degree. You can try to apply for the same. Other eligibility criterion is one should have a minimum of 55% marks in the graduation.

As regards the PG Diploma, it is for those students who had Psychology as a subject in their graduation. So I do not think that one can do it without any base of Psychology in ones graduation.

As regards WBSU (West Bengal State University), they have a MA Psychology course but they require graduation degree in the relevant area. So, that may not be feasible in your case to get admission there.

There are some colleges in West Bengal where you can try to get admission in MA Psychology without having it in your graduation. Some of these are -

    1. Bethune College, Kolkata.
    2. Selsian College, Siliguri.
