  • The NET is for two purposes.
    1. The award of JRF and /or Eligibility for Assistant Professor. It depends on the aggregate performance of the candidate in Paper-I and paper-II of UGC-NET.
2, A candidate who qualified only for Assistant Professor will not be considered for the award of JRF.
But a candidate qualified for JRF will be considered for Assistant professor also.
So you can apply for NET for both JRF and Assistant Professor and once you qualify you can work for your PhD and simultaneously try for lecturer post.
Candidates qualified in the test for eligibility for Assistant Professor has to apply separately for lecturer posts and they have to satisfy all the selection criteria of the concerned universities/colleges/state governments, You have to apply for the post. They may conduct separate written test or they may conduct the only interview.
Even with your PG qualification, you can join in any private engineering college. But they pay may not be as per the UGC scales. While working in this college you can try for UGC scales posts.

  • Qualifying in NET is a primary condition for applying for lecturer or Assistant Professor position in any college or university. The score in NET will also be helpful as that would determine calling for interview or further tests by so many institutions in our country. One has to try to get the best possible score in the NET exam. In the private colleges or universities, they have their own recruitment system and when they advertise the vacant positions, one has to apply for the same if it is in ones core subject in which one has done the PG.
As regards the Govt colleges in the state Govt many states have State Public Service Commission entrance examination for selection for the post of lecturer. There is much rush there as after that one gets a confirmed Govt posting in some Govt Degree or PG College.
Another thing is that there are some vacancies which can be temporarily filled by even the principal of the college but once a person selected from the entrance exam route comes to join the temporary post then the temporary person has to leave the job immediately. Many people join such temporary posts especially in the remote places where generally people avoid going and join some private college with less salary in the big cities which have their own charm. So, one can keep such vacancies also in mind and if opportunity knocks then take advantage of that.
Other thing is if you are having some inclination and interest for research then you can do PhD in your core area of interest and after that the chances of appointment as lecturer increase and the NET qualification is also not needed. So, you can consider that option also in the meantime.
Please keep a watch on the job portals where vacancies for the lecturer or Research fellow or Assistant Professor are published time to time and one has to keep a track of them.
There are some high end coaching centres in the big cities where the students are prepared for IAS or likewise exams. These centres also require qualified Post Graduates in various disciplines and though vacancies are very limited but as an interim measure such avenues can also be considered for time being.

  • NET is a compulsory requirement for applying for Assistant professor in any college or university. You should have minimum 55% marks in post graduation for applying UGC- NET examination. The examination is conducted for junior research fellowship and lecturership both. For junior research fellowship your age should not be more than 28 years. However, relaxation is given to SC&ST category for up to 5 years. There is no age bar for lecturership. After qualifying the exam you are eligible for the post of Assistant professor. Beside this, NET score also would be helpful at the time of recruitment. Achieving best score in NET exam would get more chance to be recruited.
Those candidate who have been awarded PhD degree with UGC regulation 2009 may be exempted from minimum criteria of NET/SLET.
According to new UGC norms, NET and PhD degree with UGC regulation 2009 both are essential requirements for appointment as Assistant professor in any govt college or university. Candidates are recruited in college or university on basis of performance in the NET exam, academic record, research publication, attended the seminar along with PhD degree with UGC regulation 2009. Moreover, some marks are fixed on interview. Thus, a merit list is prepared for recruitment.

  • NET is the compulsory requirement in both the cases such as selection for the post of lecturership in a constituent college or for the post of JRF. In both the cases, the aspirants are to secure a minimum percentage of 55 in their post graduation level so as to be considered for either of the posts. However for JRF, the age of the candidate should not exceed 28. A relaxation of five year is permitted to the reserved category people.
For the post of lecturership, there is no age bar. Once they qualify the NET test, the vacancies would be filled up according to the rankings of the candidates.
The candidates having secured Ph.D in the respective fields are exempted from the NET test so as to be eligible for the lecturership. They need to apply once the advertisement appears and they need to satisfy the interview board so as to be selected.
An impressive NET score enhances the chance of their absorption in the constituent colleges otherwise they will be selected for the private colleges.
For your further queries for the post of Asstt Professor in Orissa, the candidates may contact the officials of Berhampur University located in Orissa.

  • NET/SLET,M.Phil/PH.D is a must for obtaining a post of lecturer in colleges especially in Government colleges. But my advise is not to waste your age and time till passing the same. Instead you can join in private college or institutions as lecturer to gain experience as well it will accredit your qualification further after passing the qualification. Sometime you can get accreditation in the college/institution where you are working itself.Further it is heard that the M.Phil is going to be removed and direct PH.D is going to be made easy as per recent notification for which you are advised to get clarified well.
