  • Once you are qualified in a course through distance education from a recognised institute you will be eligible for all the posts for which the students who finished the course in regular mode. So once you obtain your M.Sc Geography, from a well-recognised institute, you can go for a teaching job.
    You can do M.Sc Geography also in distance mode. Many recognised institutes are offering this course by distance mode. The following are some of such institutes.

The classes are held in a virtual environment and syllabus is similar to that of the regular course. For applying to this distance learning course, one should have at least 50% marks in ones UG degree and should had Geography as one of the subjects in UG course. Generally admission is granted based on that though some institutes take an online test also for admission for seeing the capability of the student for the said course. Generally the fees for these courses range from Rs 8000 to 15000 per year.

    After completing the PG course in Geography, one has to go for NET (National Eligibility Test) and only after qualifying in that one becomes eligible to apply for lectureship / Assistant Professor post in Geography. Alternatively one can go for PhD after which the condition of NET is not required for applying for these posts.

If you complete postgraduate degree in geography subject through distance mode then you would be eligible for NET exam as there is no restriction on the students who have completed post graduation via distance mode.
    One should have minimum 55% marks in post graduation for appearing in NET exam. NET is done on same subject from which you have completed your post graduation. After completing post graduation, you can apply for NET.
    For applying in PG correspondence course,one must have 50% marks in UG course. It is two year degree programme. There are different admission procedure for taking admission. Some university take admission on the basis of UG marks whereas some conduct entrance test for admission.
