  • Bhutan is a country of beautiful mountains, picturesque locales, salubrious climate, and majestic monasteries and visiting Bhutan is an unforgettable experience. It is a peaceful country and cleanliness is there, everywhere.

Bhutan is approachable by various ways of travel. Flights from some cities in India are there to reach the airport 'Paro' in Bhutan. One has to check for the current time table for these flights as they often change during the different seasons. Generally these flights are available from Delhi, Gaya, Bagdogra, Kolkata, Mumbai and Guwahati. Royal Bhutan Airlines (Drukair) gives good discount to the travellers and one can explore that option also.

Another option which is of course a cheaper one is to go to Hasimara Railway station and then go by road to the Jaigaon which is a town located at the India Bhutan border. Jaigaon is only 18 km from Hasimara. From Jaigaon one has to travel only 4-5 km to reach the border town Phuentsholing in Bhutan. One can go to the IRCTC railway website to find out the train to Hasimara. Some train routes are there from Delhi, Kanpur, Ranchi, and Kolkata respectively to Hasimara. Train takes significant time to reach there but it is a good option for budget travellers.

Many people prefer to move in a car or taxi as there is no hassle of reservation and other problems and it is a good mode to do so. But as it would not be feasible for many to make such long road journey it is better to reach Jalpaiguri or other nearby towns in West Bengal and then hire a taxi to proceed to Jaigaon.

When you reach the immigration office in the border town Phuentsholing or the airport Paro, you will have to fill a form asking for permit to enter Bhutan. Following documents and their copies will be required at that time -
    1. Voter ID card or Passport.
    2. Passport size photo.
    3. Hotel booking proof.
    4. Travel plan (date wise itinerary) on a sheet of paper.
    5. Undertaking letter for single travellers.

Sometimes there is a rush of tourists to Bhutan and it is advisable to reach the immigration office early in the day otherwise one would get delayed in reaching the hotel in Bhutan. Another point is that this permit allows for visiting only the places like Thimphu, Paro and Punakha. If one is interested to visit places like Bumthang then one has to take a special permit. Nowadays online permit system is also there and one can use that for getting permits. The Bhutan Govt has started taking a fee also for visiting Bhutan on per day basis and at present it is Rs 1200 per day.

There are many good hotels in Bhutan and one can find their details in the hotel booking websites and decide depending upon their location and rate. Some of the worth mentionable hotels are - Khamsum Inn, Centennial Hotel, Zambala Hotel River View, Nirvana Inn, Thimphu 180 view, Taktsang Village Resort, Sambhav Serviced Apartments etc.
