For a small room generally AC having a capacity of 0.8 to 1.0 ton is sufficient. They generally cover an area of 150 to 400 square feet. There are many brands and models available in the market. Some of these are as follows -

See before buying AC, is that a split or a window? One part of the split AC is hung on the wall and the other part is placed in the open space and the window AC fits easily in the home window. Both have the same power consumption according to the star rating but choosing to Keep in mind the need first:
Nowadays there is no window on the balcony or bedroom in flats etc. In such a situation, split AC is the better option. If you have good window space and want to save money, then window AC will be fine.
Before taking AC according to the size of your room, you have to understand how it will work - any AC has to spend 20 BTU per hour to cool 1 square foot of space. 3.5 BTU equals 1 watt. Recently one of my close relations purchased an LG 1.5-ton inverter split AC. This is a 5-star rated AC. The following are the features of this AC.

Please do note that it is best to invest in a high-quality AC with the best Stabiliser, and the best in the business, seems to Voltas. This brand is from the Tatas and the service back-up is excellent.

However, as Rao Sir, as listed all the major brands, I would not go into the details. 1.5 ton is a must and the stabilizer is the V-guard stabilizer. Please do ensure that the pipelines are properly done and the AC unit should be the wall-mounted AC. Never go in for the window AC. This is difficult to maintain and is not so common these days.

The pipelines leading to the outlet need to be carefully done. This might cost you a bit, but it is right to make a good investment that lasts you for a longer time. I have tried Voltas recently and find it to be too good. If you buy right now, you might get a bit of a discount. Take care to buy the best. Never ever go in for an assembled AC. You may think it is cheap but it is not.

This is often done with second-hand or even third-hand units by half-baked people, who do not know anything. They are not professionals. They are cheap but very dangerous. For example, some six fire accidents with AC were rep[orted from Chennai, and all of them involved the unorganized unbranded ACs. This is very unsafe. For a small room, 1.5 ton from Voltas should be fine.

For the small rooms not exceeding 170 square meters, top windows ACs are ideal. You need to ensure that the coils are made of pure copper for taking advantage of its high electrical conductivity and durability.
