  • For online renewal of a driving license one has to visit the concerned state Govt RTO site and download the necessary application forms and fill them and submit to the RTO office. The inspector of transport office will take a physical test and then the person will get the renewed license after sometime at his home address. Due to corona pandemic many states have stopped taking the physical tests and the existing license is allowed to be valid for some more time till the situation improves. So one has to find the exact position from the state RTO office site in this respect.

Generally, a driving license is valid for 20 years or the holders reaches an age of 50. After that it has to be renewed.

For renewing the license one has to download form 9 and form 1A from the RTO site and then fill them and then submit all the following documents in the RTO office -
    1. Duly filled in form 9.
    2. Duly filled in form 1 A and also duly certified by a doctor.
    3. Original driving license which is going to expire very soon or has already expired.
    4. Passport sized photographs - 2 Nos.
    5. Aadhar card.

Above are the general guidelines and there might be some subtle changes from state to state. One has to ascertain that from the concerned state RTO website.

    Knowledge is power.

  • Generally, once you obtain a driving licence it will be valid for 20 years or till the holder attains an age of 50 years, whichever is earlier. The driving licence should be valid and in force when you go on driving a vehicle in a public place. One should get it renewed without forgetting.
Once you have a valid licence you can drive a vehicle of such type for which you have a licence legally. In addition to that, your driving licence will be a document which will be useful to prove your identity. In case of any unwanted incident, you can't claim insurance if the driver of the vehicle is not having a valid licence.
