Casually I told about my purchasing. He alerted me that being a pure vegetarian, I should avoid consuming chyavanapras lehya as it contains more animal fat. • Your friend has given you completly wrong and misleading information. Chavanprasyalehyam is a pure Ayurvedic preparation. No ayurvedic medicine contain any animal fat. This is 100% sure.
I have seen the preparation of Chavanaprasya in one of the reputed Ayurvedic companies in Andhra Pradesh. The main ingredient is Amla fruits. These amla fruits are big in size. Using these fruits only this will be prepared. All other ingredients also are from plants only.
The major ingredients of the preparation will be mentioned on the container of the preparation. You can see the list on the tine. No animal fat will be there in that. The important ingredients are Amla, Neem, Pippali, Ashwagandha, Safed Chandana, Tulsi, Elaichi, Arjun, Brahmi, Kesar, Ghrita and Shahad.
Chyawanprash is a herbal preparation that will be a good remedy for almost all health anomalies. It is a very good immunity booster and you can use it without any hesitation. Daily you can take two doses, One in the morning and one in the evening. Dabur, Zandu, Patanjali or Venkateswara Ayurveda Nilayam are some good companies making this medicine. You can try any of them. I am a regular user of this medicine.

All the leading manufacturers follow the stringent norms while preparing this Rasayan. You can verify the contents being used in the preparation of this Lehya which is printed externally on the container.
You can have this Rasayana from the different leading manufacturers such as Dabur, Kottayam, Zandu etc and can be consumed one teaspoon twice in the empty stomach along with warm milk for the enhancement of the immunity of the entire body - system.

  • Your friend has misguided you saying that it contains animal fat. You might have heard that chayawanprash has been ayurvedic medicine since early times as an immunity booster. You can better understand by knowing the literal meaning of this word. As you know Chyavanprash comprises two words chawan and crash. Chyawan' was the name of the sage for whom this Ayurvedic nutritive formula was formed to restore his youth & vitality. In Sanskrit, the word 'prash' means specially prepared food. So, It is completely vegetarian. It is a mixture of Anlasugar, honey, ghee, Indian gooseberry (amla) jam, sesame oil, berries and various herbs and spices. If you have any doubt then you can see the ingredients which have been printed on the container. It is consumed as a dietary supplement. It is an ancient Indian formulation (a polyherbal jam), that has been prepared with the ayurvedic traditional formulation. It can be used for all age groups. It is rich in antioxidants and helps in strengthening your body immunity.

  • Chyavanprash contains major ingredient Amla or Indian gooseberry. Jaggery is also there in good quantity. It has many other herbal ingredients and the some of the usual ingredients in Ayurvedic medicines.

You may visit the websites of the major reputed Ayurvedic manufacturers and check the ingredients. You can also visit an Ayurvedic shop and read the ingredients from the label on the product or brochure, if any, coming with that.

Though there are a few Ayurvedic medicines which have animal ingredients categorised as non-vegetarian, Chyavanprash does not contain such matters. Many' lehyas and paks' in Ayurvedic preparations contain ghee mainly cow ghee. Some of the medicines are prepared using milk also.

I think Chyavanprash may not be necessary for the ten year old child unless you feel she has some nutritional deficiency or not getting balanced diet regularly. You can give her home prepared Amla murabba, Amla candy etc instead. But you can take Chyavanprasha regularly as a supplement.
