Echogram or stress test - which is more reliable?

Stress is done after an exercise like walking on a treadmill. It is a simple ECG after exercise. They will compare the condition of the heart before and after the exercise.
An Echogram is a test conducted by using UV radiation to study the condition of the heart. Generally, the Echogram test is more accurate than a simple stress test. The Echogram also will be taken two times that is before starting the exercise and after the exercise.
For a normal person who is not having any history of heart problems with normal BP and sugar levels, a stress test will be recommended and if necessary they may go for Echogram. However, the doctor is the person who will decide on this and we have to go as per his advice.

Angiogram and Angioplasty:
An angiogram is a procedure to look at the condition of your blood vessel using an X-ray and analysing the same. This is done to understand the condition of your blood vessels and the extent of damage to these vessels. After the procedure, you will be monitored for 2 to 3 hours in the hospitals and based on the condition you may be asked to go home back. In any condition, it may take a maximum of one day to recover fully.
Angioplasty is to widen the narrowed or blocked artery. The surgeon may use a balloon to stretch open a narrowed or blocked artery. These days angioplasty involve inserting a short wire-mesh tube (a stent) into the artery. The stent will be left in that place permanently. The recovery time after this process is generally 2 weeks but may vary based on the condition of the patient.

Echocardiogram (Echogram) is a test done using ultrasound waves for checking the functioning of the heart. It is a reliable diagnostic test helping the doctors for a better diagnosis of heart ailments if these ailments are present in the individual. The echocardiogram is done in two modes. One is the resting mode in which the patient lies on the hospital bed and echogram is recorded. Second is stress echogram in which the person is asked to walk on a treadmill by varying the speed of the treadmill and response of the heart is seen as how it is behaving under stress of working. This gives a very valuable information to the doctor regarding the status of the heart of that person. By seeing these two echograms the doctor can make better observations and conclusions regarding the condition of the heart.

After conducting various tests when the doctors find that there is a probable block in the arteries in the body of the person then they go for angiogram and if required go for angioplasty also. In this procedure a long thin is inserted through the thigh of the person and the conditions of the arteries is checked through X-ray imaging machine. If at some place plaque (cholesterol deposit) is found then it can be either scrapped with the same wire or by using a special ballooning procedure called angioplasty, the plaque is reduced in its content. In fact if the plaque is more and there are chances of its deposition again soon then a small tubular spring device called stent is inserted through the same wire at that place and fixed there permanently. The function of the stent is to keep the inner diameter of the artery clear for blood flow. If the person has multiple plaque sites then a number of stents are fixed in those places.

Echogram test is more reliable than stress test. An echocardiogram is a test in which ultrasound is used to show how heart muscle and valves are working. The sound waves make moving pictures of heart so doctor can easily look its size and shape. Whereas, stress test, also called an exercise stress test. It is done to shows how your heart works during physical activity. During exercise heart pump becomes harder and faster, an exercise stress test can reveal problems with blood flow within heart. Generally, doctor recommend a stress test when a person is undergoing heart treatment, having difficulty breathing, chest pain, dizziness and having irregular fast heart beat.

Stress test involves physical running on the treadmill to know the pumping conditions of the heart. ECG would indicate the effect of heart condition in both the states such as prior to the treadmill test and after the treadmill test. This test would provide a rough idea of the heart health
In case of Echogram test, where ultrasound sound is employed for assessing the heart condition, this test is more reliable in the detection of any abnormalities relating to heart functioning. The appearance of heart both in terms of size and shape are truly revealed by the employment of ultrasound.
However, the doctors would recommend both the tests since stress test would reveal the blood flow during the exercise any erratic flow can be detected under this test. Difficulty in the breathing or in case of dizziness this test is often recommended.
