  • The eligibility criteria for the UGC NET examination will be as mentioned belwi
Any Indian National having a Master's Degree from a University recognized by the University Grants Commission with a minimum of 55% marks (in their post-graduation) or who are appearing for the final year examination and the results are expected before the Net examination are eligible to apply for this examination.
Narsee Monjee Institute of Management was founded in 1981 and achieved Deemed-to-be-University status from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2003. So the degrees awarded by this institute are valid on par with all other universities that are having recognition and UGC is allowing part-time degree holders also for NET examination. So you can appear for the UGC NET examination and once you are qualified you can join any educational institute as faculty.

  • Narsee Monjee Institute of Management was established in the year 1981 and has achieved deemed to be university status from UGC in 2003 apart from its NAAC accreditation. It is one of the best universities providing excellent management education in terms of quality.
The special features of this Institute is as follows -
    1) Top ranking 10 B school providing excellent input to the aspirants in India.
    2) NAAC accreditation ( Grade A +)
    3) Ranked top 100 university by NIRF.
    4) Strength of full time faculty members over 750.
    5) Taking care of the recruitment of the students by providing them the opportunity of their campus recruitment.

Though they impart part time course to the aspirants but still the course is recognised through the UGC system.
You will have to qualify UGC NET so that you would have the chance of your selection for the post of Assistant Professor. However, note that your qualifying mark should not be less than 55% without rounding off so as to be eligible to appear for UGC NET. However, there is relaxation for non creamy layers such as OBC, SC/ST and the aspirants having disabilities in terms of physical health. In such cases, they need to have 50% marks without rounding off for their eligibility to sit for UGC NET.
Aspirants have to take utmost care so that they become successful in the final test since the members on the Board would assess the potential of each candidate before they are included in the list of successful aspirants.

I understand that NMIMS has achieved deemed to be university status but does it mean it's all courses are recognised by UGC?

Moreover,The part time MBA offered by NMIMS is of 2 years compared to 3 years part time MBA offered by other colleges and universities. However, this 2 years part time MBA was held from Wednesday till Saturday every week unlike 3 years part time MBA which is held only on weekends. So, will 2 years MBA be considered valid or not for UGC NET and Assistant professor

  • Dear Apurva,
Your doubts are legitimate considering the tenure of the management course provided by NMIMS reflecting some inconsistency when we compare the management course developed by them for such a short tenure consisting of two years on part time basis. Please note that irrespective of the course of two year duration, UGC has finally recognised this course paving the way for the aspirants to sit for UGC NET.
It should be the endeavour of the aspirants to show their best performance so that they are finally selected.
If you go through the UGC guideline there is no mention of any remark which is against this NMIMS course. Hence anyone can safely pursue this course for their higher aspirations for the post of Assistant Professor through the UGC NET rout.
Apart from that NMIMS has shown consistent placement records with the highest salary of the aspirants to the tune of Rs 34.11 Lakhs and the average being Rs 17. 58 Lakhs. The top recruiters of these management graduates are Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, Mind Tech, Spark Mind etc.

  • Dear Jha Sir

Sir, you said that UGC has recently recognised this course for UGC NET and Assistant Professor position. Could you please throw light on this? Could you please guide me to any document or resource that I could refer to for the same.

Actually, I already cleared UGC NET ( 99.94) percentile. After that I have been seeking Assistant Professor jobs but two of the colleges in Maharashtra, after offering me job, withdrew the offer saying that NMIMS needs to give a document showing that this degree is valid for Assistant professor position.NMIMS didn't give the document saying that as it's degree is recognised, it can't issue such a letter.

Now, I am caught up in this confusion and I am very anxious. I am afraid what if other colleges too refuse to accept this degree for Assistant professor position.

( I am worried whether my UGC NET score would be considered if the colleges are doubting my degree)
