  • Career guidance required for a working professional

Are you a working professional keen to complete a postgraduate course related to analytics or statistics that would help you to move ahead in your career in the IT sector? Check out the suggestions of courses and colleges that offer PG courses in these areas specifically designed for working professionals.

I have completed my graduation in B.Com Computers from Osmania University and due to financial problems I didn't do any Postgraduation course and now I want to improve my qualifications. Initially, I want to become a CA and that is the reason I chose a B.Com Computers degree program as my career path, but later things changed due to various reasons, I have then learned some software courses and switched to the IT industry long back. On the work front, I initially joined a level 5 company to gain some experience and recently I joined a well-known MNC Company and without any discrimination, I am earning equally with engineering graduates. My role in technology is - ETL Developer, with overall IT experience of 4 years.

    My career query-
I want to do a Postgraduation without quitting my job, I need your valuable advice to move forward. I came to know about some Distance education programs for working professionals like WLP (Work Integrated Learning Program) and Executive MBA programs. However, I don't know which one to opt for as I am confused. I want to do a PG in something related to Analytics or statistics field which will help me to grow with my current tech stack.

Note: Please suggest me valid universities recognized across the IT Industry.

  • You are already having experience in the field of IT as ETL developer. You must be well aware about extracting, transforming, and loading processes for implementing IT solutions. So it would make sense to acquire more skills in the same field as well as enlarging the area through learning of additional skills for functioning as a Database Administrator or Business intelligence developer. Seeing your background and experience you can also plan to spread your wings in the connected areas like Data architecture, Data engineering, Data analysis, Database/Warehouse development etc.
If you have a keen interest in enhancing your academic qualification by going for a MBA or some advance IT course then I would suggest you to go through the online courses which are available in the top online agencies like Coursera, Vedantu, Zeus, Unacademy etc. They have a large number of courses for the working professionals and one can choose from that as per one's requirement and interest.

    Knowledge is power.

  • Since you are already working in the IT industry and with the time you would acquire sufficient experience in that field. The only basic thing is to learn the basics of the modules employed in your areas. Any confusion relating to the job is to fixed either through the experienced personnel or go in tutorial available in the internet.
Since you are working as an IT developer, you should be good enough in the skills of extracting, transforming and loading these skills in the software so that solutions could be achieved in your working area.
You should focus on Data Analysis, Data structure, Warehouse Development etc. There are institutions from where you can strengthen your skills. Some of the areas which could be helpful to you to understand these domains are APTECH, NEET etc.
The other way is to choose the executive professional course for your entry to MBA course. This can be done through the recommendation of your employer taking interest in the up gradation of the knowledge of the employees for the benefits of the company. If you get such a chance, you must avail of the same for your future benefits.

  • There are many options for you. Some options were given below.
    1. You can do your PG without discontinuing the job through IGNOU. I know many people who did their PG while working through this. The university is having study centres across the country and they will attach you to one such centre and you can attend the classes there on holidays and complete the course. You can see the website of this university to get more details about the same.
    2. You can do a PG diploma course in Business Administration through distance mode from famous institutes and business schools. IIM Calcutta is offering a PG diploma through distance mode for the people working in the IT industry, It will help you in acquiring senior positions in a management function in the IT industry as well as in other industries also.,
    3. Already you are working in an MNC in the IT sector and you are working as a developer. You know what are the latest development in this field and what are the skills required. Many institutes are offering these skills. You can search online and select the course and the institute based on your interest. You can select the timings also and do it. Drawspace, edX, and Coursera are a few examples of such sites where you will get these.
