  • Annamalai University is the oldest university engaged in imparting education since 1929 (being the starting date of its existence since 1 st January 1929) The university imparts Distance Education Courses designed to cater to the needs of the aspirants with the low investments of their varied courses prevailing in their systems.
Since you are interested to know the maximum number of attempts to clear your B.A. examination from this university., it is for your information that you will have to clear all the subjects included for B.A . syllabus within six years. Since in each year, there are two semesters - one in January and the other one in July and so you are getting twelve chances to clear the said course.
If the said examination could not be cleared within the stipulated period, you would be required to start the course afresh with the permission of the university.

  • For first year subject in graduation courses, if failed in March one can appear in September of the second year or even one can appear along with the second year papers. But for a real student it is not good to postpone the appearance but confidence in finishing then itself.
From the point views of academicians, it is not correct to analyze the attempt possibilities instead it is good to a student to think positively to finish of his/her attempt in first itself. Normally universities allow students to appear attempts many times but for that one should not think about attempts. When I did post graduation in Commerce through Madurai Kamaraj University, many times I paid the exam fees but could not appear for examination due to the non availability of leave as I had to attend court works on my office work. By this way I spent three years but with forceful efforts I finished my PG in four years instead of two.

  • As per the UGC norms, a candidate has to complete his degree within N + 2 years where N is the minimum duration of the course.
BA degree is for 3 years duration. So the University will allow 3 + 2 years that is 5 years to complete your course. One more additional year can be granted by the university under exceptional conditions and the VC can take the decision. So a student enrolled in Annamalai University will get a maximum of 6 years to complete his degree. Every year you will have two times examinations. So you will get 6 chances.
    1. If you have any backlogs in 1st year you will get 10 additional chances for completing those subjects. This is possible because you can attend the 1st year examinations while doing your 2nd year and 3rd year also,
    2. If you have any backlogs in the 2nd year you will get 8 additional chances for competing those subjects. This is possible because you can attend 2nd-year examinations while doing your final year.
    3. For backlogs in the final year you will get 6 additional chances including the chances the university may give under exceptional conditions.

  • For backlogs and arrears in various subject papers in the undergraduate courses there is the UGC stipulation that says that 2 extra years would be given to the candidate for completing the course and covering all the backlogs and arrears by that time. So for a 3 years UG course the total maximum time available is 5 years. The student who is having backlogs can take advantage of this facility and can complete the course within that extended time of 2 years failing which he would not be allowed to continue further.
In some eventuality like the death of the family bread earner or some natural calamity if the student could not attend the college then in such spacial circumstances spacial exemption can be provided by the University administration to take a sympathetic view and allow the student to complete the course even at a later date. But that is only allowed in very rare circumstances.
