  • After obtaining a green card to stay in the US, you can apply for Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card. The details of the card are as follows

    1. This Scheme was introduced by amending the Citizenship Act, 1955 in August 2005. All Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) who were citizens of India on 26th January 1950 or thereafter or were eligible to become citizens of India on 26th January 1950 and presently staying in some other country can apply for this. But a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh etc are not allowed.
    2. An OCI card holder can have multiple entries, multipurpose, life-long visas for visiting India. There is no need to register with the Foreign Regional Registration Officer or Foreign Registration Officer for any length of stay in India.
    3. They are entitled to benefits that are available to-Resident Indians in respect of economic, financial and educational fields except in matters relating to the acquisition of agricultural or plantation properties.
