  • How to deal with spelling mistake of my caste in Central list of OBC

Worried how to deal with the spelling variance of a caste notified in the OBC list of the central Government and the one certified by the State. Check this ISc page to sort out your problem.

I belong to OBC with all the prescribed criteria by Central Govt. But I found there was a spelling mistake of my caste in the Central OBC list . For example caste SANKAYA is mispelled with SANSKAYA i.e addition of letter S between N and K. State Government is printing OBC certificate with SANKAYA which is correct but not accepted during certificate verification in central job as there is additional letter S is added. How can I find solution to get use of OBC to my job or future opportunities.

Please provide valuable suggestion and solutions for the above.

  • The central government list says SANSKAYA as the name of a caste that comes in the OBC list.
The state government list says SANKAYA as the name of a caste that is included in the OBC list.
Even though it is a spelling mistake, it can't be corrected easily. Sanskaya may be correct as per them and the same may be used in other states.
In India, there are many castes and subcastes, The same caste will be called with a different name in another state. That is a big problem. Generally, from the Revenue department, we will get a list of castes that will be called with a different name in a different place. For example, Rajus is a caste in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In some places they will be called Kasthriyas. The names of the castes that are equivalent will be given in the list that is existing in the Revenue Department.
What I suggest you visit the office of Mandal Revenue office of your Mandal and explain them the problem. Show them the list. Ask them to give a certificate saying that these two castes are one and the same. Then you can produce that certificate when you go for certificate verification. If the revenue authorities say it is a spelling mistake and there is no caste that is called, Sansakaya. Ask them to give you a certificate saying that it is a spelling mistake and both the castes are the same. That will serve your purpose.
Another option is to contact a lawyer and explain him the problem and you have to get his opinion. If necessary you have to file a case against the department for rejecting your application because of a mistake in spelling in their list, The lawyer should tell you whether the two castes are same or not. Once you confirm this, you can proceed legally.

  • You have verified from the records of state government and SANKYA seems to be the appropriate in your case falling within the categories of OBC and accordingly you want to rectify the present error for your benefits.
It seems to be a cumbersome process since the mistake originated from the Central Government would not likely to compromise with you offering an explanation that the authorities would have broad views considering the people of the different areas where they are known as SANSKAYA fitted against OBC class.
Just to know the correctness of your title, you may verify the records of the revenue department and see what are the possibilities of alterations of the original title Sankara. If the same title appears with the different forms and at least one is matching of yours, take the photocopy of the original to be shown during the process of document verification.
If you could not get any favour in your case, you should approach a reputed lawyer for the needful. The lawyer could tell you what would be appropriate and acceptable title in your case. Follow his advice sincerely and if needed he would suggest you legal procedure so as to come out of the present impasse.
