  • Queries related to KVS and NVS exams

Planning to apply for PGT teaching jobs in KV or NVS schools? Find out from experts if your current B.Ed. qualifications are sufficient to be eligible to apply or whether you need to appear for any additional exam.

I have done B.Ed. in Hindi and Social Studies in 2019, and then M.A. in English Literature in 2021. So, can I apply for PGT jobs in KVS and NVS or do I have to give an additional exam of English subject for B.Ed.? If yes, then please let me know the additional exam procedure.

  • If you want to become a PGT in a KVS/NVS, you should have a master's degree in the concerned subject with a minimum of 50% marks. In addition to that, you should have a B.Ed degree. In this, you should have the subject as one of the subjects. But in your case you are not having English. So it is advisable to do an additional; B.Ed with that subject. You need not appear for the complete course again. There is a provision to appear for the examination and the terms and conditions will be as follows.
    1. You need to apply for the additional subject in the prescribed form. You should apply to the same university from which you did your B.Ed. You can't apply to another university.
    2. The additional subject you choose must be there in your academic qualification as a subject.
    3. You have to pay the prescribed fee and submit your application as per the procedure mentioned in their notification.
    4. Generally, for such candidates the examination will be conducted in June/July every year. You have to appear for the examination.
    5. In addition to the written examination, there will be a teaching practical examination also in the subject and the candidate has to appear for that also.
    6. You have to submit your application online and a copy of the same with the receipt of payment within 7 days after the last date for submitting the application online.

There may be minor differences from University to University. So you have to contact the examinations department of your university and as per their terms and conditions you have to apply and then appear for both written and teaching examinations.

  • The essential condition for being a PGT is to have your post graduation degree in the subject concerned in which you would continue your teaching but that is not enough. You have to have a B.Ed degree with at least inclusion of the same subject with which you have completed your masters degree.
In your case, such a consistency is lacking since you have passed M.A with English Literature but your subjects were different in your B.Ed stage.
In such a situation, you have write your B. Ed examination again taking a single paper in English Language so that your eligibility criteria is maintained.
For that you have to approach your university through your application requesting you to allow for writing B.Ed again with a single paper of English Literature making you eligible for teaching profession in KVS/ NVS. This application has to be routed through the principal of your B.Ed college with his forwarding note. Once you get the approval of VC of the University, go ahead for the examination with your said paper after paying the prescribed fees of the university. Normally, the examinations are held in the month of June/ July every year.
The other option could be to write your B.Ed through IGNOU with their approval and in that you get a degree which is acceptable to all government jobs / academic circles since it is a recognised degree through UGC.

  • The essential qualification for being PGT teacher is to have a master's degree and B.Ed Degree in the concerned subject in which you want to be a teacher. But in your case, you have a master's degree in English but do not have a B.Ed degree. So, you will have to complete a B.Ed degree in English subject for getting a teaching job in KVS/NVS. You can apply in IGNOU for the B.Ed course because it is well recognized and reputed. You can get a degree here from a distant mode. And It is accepted all over India.
