  • BTech part time courses offered at Hyderabad Universities

Keen to take up a part-time B.Tech. course while working? Know where you can pursue one that is offered by a Hyderabad university and whether or not it would help you in getting a promotion.

I completed my diploma in computer science and I want to do a part-time B.Tech. course. Currently, I am working as a Class IV employee at a Govt institution and I am not getting any promotion with my diploma. Hence I wish to study B.Tech. either part-time or as an evening program for working professionals. If I do such a course, would it be valid for promotion?

  • You can do B Tech from any university or college in Hyderabad that offers part-time courses and distance education.
The eligibility criteria for doing graduation on distance mode is a diploma in the same field in which you want to do your B Tech. But B.Tech completed through distance education is not recognised by UGC. But many colleges and Universities are offering part-time courses to working professionals. The duration of the course will be about 4 years. Admissions will be based on the entrance test conducted by the university. The following are the institutes where you can get the required information.
    1. College of Engineering, University campus, Osmania University, Hyderabad
    2. JNTU College of Engineering, Kukatpally Hyderabad
    3. University of Hyderabad, Gachi Bowli, Hyderabad
    4. BITS, Hyderabad.

  • Adding a technical qualification enhancing your demand in your career would certainly be benefited. You are diploma holder in computer science and by going through a higher course equivalent to degree in Engineering can widen your promotional prospects. However I advise you not to be entrapped with some catchy advertisements of some engineering colleges showing that the course is recognised through AICTE approval but the fact might be otherwise. Hence to get the correct information, you might go to the Osmania University straightway knowing your admission eligibility in this government college. You will have to clear both written and oral test to be inducted for this degree programme in Engineering.
The other option could be to enrol yourself in AMIE course in Computer Engineering while continuing your present job. Start your preparations in your leisure hours. This can be undertaken while continuing your job and clearing both the sections A and B containing 9 and 8 papers respectively would depend upon your efforts in the sense how sincerely you are making efforts in this direction. You might take help of one of established professional institutes offering guidance in your studies so that time could be curtailed. This degree is at par with degree in Engineering and is recognised in both job sectors and higher studies if you want so.
Similarly DOEC society provides different sections such as C, B and A and passing these sections through your concerted efforts can raise your qualifications up to M.Tech in Computer Engineering since A grade denotes to M.Tech where as C grade corresponds to degree in Engineering or MCA level. Grade O denotes to foundation course and Grade A level denotes to Advanced Diploma in the computer course. These courses are well recognised by both Central Governments and Job Sectors.

  • now you have completed your diploma in computer engineering, a higher degree will always be beneficial for your promotions in your work field. Now days getting an engineering degree is not a big task. There are numerous colleges that provide distance engineering courses in Hyderabad some of them are
    1. College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad
    2. JNTU College of Engineering, Kukatpally Hyderabad
    3. University of Hyderabad, Gachi Bowli, Hyderabad
    4. BITS, Hyderabad.
    5. Malla reddy college of engineering.

but due to some reasons distance education of technical and skilled courses is not approved by UGC.
In my opinion, because you are working in a government institution you should go for an AMIE certicicate.

The full form of AMIE is "Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers". AMIE is a professional certification given by the Institution of Engineers (India).

The Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development considers this AMIE qualification equivalent to a degree in engineering. The qualification can be earned by passing the Section A, Project Work, and Section B examinations of the Institution. If you pass both sections of the examination, you become an Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers. AMIE is equivalent to B Tech. However, it is continuing education. It means that AMIE should be pursued by working aspirants engaged in the engineering field
