  • After marriage when we go to our separate families, we will have a pooja place in our house and we will keep a Gowri Devi idol in the Pooja place in addition to other idols. Generally, we will arrange an Asanam ( a device for keeping these idols in the Pooja place. In that Asanam this Gowri Devi will be placed. We can perform pooja daily to Gowri Devi. If we do any special Pooja in our house, we should keep this Gowri Devi idol with her Asanam in the place where we perform the special pooja. That way we will be performing pooja to Gowri Devi on the Ganesh Chaturthi also.
Mangal Gauri Vratam will be performed by ladies after marriage for 5 years during Sravan Masam. Pooja will be performed every Tuesday and Friday during that month as per the prescribed procedure. This procedure will be available in a Printed form and you can purchase the same. Nowadays you will get. the same PDF format online also.
It is good to perform this pooja especially by married women.

  • Traditionally Gauri Puja (for pleasing Goddess Parvati) is done in some parts of India especially in Maharashtra and by the girls before the marriage for getting a suitable husband. They also perform it after the marriage during the Ganesh Chaturthi time. It is also known by the names of Jyeshtha Gauri Puja or Mangala Gauri Vrata.
In our scriptures it is mentioned that Goddess Sita conducted Gauri Puja to get Lord Rama as her husband. So in our country in many parts the girls do it for getting a good husband while the married ladies do it for the long lives of their husbands.
For carrying out this Puja, the basic things required would be - Idols of Goddess Durga/Parvati, Lord Shiva and Ganesha, Haldi, Roli, Sandalwood paste, Kumkum, Rice, Diya (Deepak), Cotton, oil, Dhoop, Rose, Flowers, Betel leaves, Mango leaves, Fruits, Sweets, Coins, Coconut, Milk, Panchamrit etc.
One can get a standard Puja book and orate the Puja process and then give some money as dakshina to some priest in the nearby temple. If one can afford one can call a priest in the house also who will guide for the Puja.
In Maharashtra there is a tradition of three days Gauri Puja in which idols are first welcome and then taken for visarjan. One can adopt that or limit oneself for the basic Puja and donation to the priest or temple.
Basic purpose of this Puja is to please Goddess Parvati and attain prosperity in ones life.

    Knowledge is power.

  • Gauri Puja is very popular in the Maharashtra region where the unmarried girls take this ritual seriously with a view to their fulfilments of suitable husbands and so they would make every attempt to please Gauri. They are not alone in such celebrations and even their parents and other close relatives encourage these unmarried girls to perform this Puja. This Puja is repeated every year to see that their husbands enjoy perfect healths and peace. This auspicious Puja is celebrated in Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Mangala Gauri Varatha.
The unmarried girls are inspired by Parvati's devotion for her dedicated Gauri Puja to get a perfect partner Lord Ram as her husband.
This Puja can be performed with the guidance of an experienced Pandit taking different items such as idols of Goddess Parvati, Dhup, flowers, Betel Leaves, Chandan, Kumkum, Roli, Fruits, Sweets, Coins etc and after the Arpan Process, the unmarried girls take Ashirvads from their close relatives including Panditjee.
The Puja is performed for three days in Maharashtra with the total devotion by the kumaris and finally the idol is immersed in the nearby river with carrying out basic puja with the accompanying donations to the priests. The philosophy behind this ritual is to please Goddess Parvati for the attainments of their cherished desires for getting matching husbands and restoration of peace in their conjugal lives.
